No Breakfast at Tiffany's.

October 5, 2006 -- A New Jersey mother who says she was ordered not
to give her infant daughter breakfast at Tiffany's - by breast-
feeding her - has gotten the go-ahead to sue the legendary jewelry
store for discrimination.

Rosa Almond, 32, of Wayne claims she was feeding her 4-month-old in
the Tiffany branch in Short Hills when a male employee stopped her
and publicly chastised her.

The staffer told her "in a loud and annoyed tone, 'You can't do this.
You can't be here . . . You can go to the bathroom and do that.' He
then 'stormed off,' " according to a Superior Court summary of
Almond's complaint.

The mortified mom said she burst into tears and left the store, Judge
Burrell Ives Humphreys wrote in granting her the right to sue.
Tiffany had asked Humphreys to throw out the suit, but he said that a
jury could "reasonably find that the Tiffany employee . . . violated
[the discrimination law]."

A Tiffany spokeswoman, Linda Buckley, said company "has no policy
that attempts to prevent women from breast feeding in a Tiffany
store."

"This case is about the blocking of a door," said Linda Buckley.

The case is slated to go to trial next Tuesday.

Good for her and good for that judge! I hope she gets lots and lots of money!

Isn't it funny how these companies come up with some bs reason for asking a woman to go to the bathroom? "It's not about nursing, it's about blocking the door." "It's not about nursing, it's about taking up a dressing room." "It's not about nursing, we just have something lodged up our backsides.".... ooops, ok, maybe I'm just hoping that comes out in a report because that's what all their excuses sound like.

You have to have time out in the bathroom when you block a door? How odd.

They must have thought she said "naughty pot" if they were sending her to the bathroom

Oh man, that poor woman (and baby, of course). How mortifying.

Why are people so incredibly rude to other people? The employee in question doesn't have to like nursing or nursing mothers, but I hope somewhere in him he understands that he could have easily looked away, but instead he verbally harassed and embarassed someone for the sake of his own discomfort.

Such a shame.

If that's not their policy, I guess they should have informed all of their employees of that. Think what that one jerk is going to cost them if justice prevails.

Good for her! I hope she sues and wins and that it gives courage to a lot of other women who find themselves stuck in simular situations.

I'm glad and I hope she wins so that other companies will take notice and change their policies/educate their employees.

Is anyone going to gather the day of and use this as a media event to promote bfing and non-discrimination? Just wondering...I'm not in TX so I don't know if this is an organizationally possible event...It seems like that mom and moms everywhere could use our support. I can just see it now: Lots of babes being worn and moms nursing out on the steps of some courthouse...With lots of media...oooo, I can feel the justice now! Does anyone knoe when the court goes to trial? Is there a way to find out?

HE HE

Good for her. I like how they come with excuses. It's like "Tell me where she was doing that thing and we'll figure out why she shouldn't have been doing it there!" - Yeah WHATEVER!

If there's some sort of protest, I'm totally in, depending on how far this is from my neck of the woods.

And seriously, mamas, this could be huge. If she wins, it could open the floodgates. Here's hoping!

I would rather sue that individual employee than the whole store. He publicly humiliated her and harassed her. I'd take him into civil court. Just me, though.

Can a civil court case set a precedent? I have no idea.

But how much is she going to get from some guy that works at Tiffany's? Will Tiffany's care if one of their employees gets sued, probably not, but they'll sure sit up and take notice if THEY are sued.
