lazy or good for the baby?

Hi all-

I find myself spending the majority of my day sitting on the couch. Sweet ds Simon is usually nursing (he nurses A LOT) or sleeping, and he only likes the sling or other carrier some of the time.

So, am I being lazy sitting on the couch all day or is it really what's best for my baby? Anybody else spend this much time sitting on their butt?

I can't with this one but I sure did with my first! All your babe wants is to be close to you. I'd say it's probably worse for you than it is for the babe!

That was me with my second baby. I hated the couch. Thank goodness my older boys make that impossible this time!

We spend ALOT of time camped out on the couch. Just eating, holding, and now, cooing! They won't be this little for long....I say savor every moment and be lazy! And I try to read as much as possible to keep from getting sucked into them silly VH1 shows.

thanks ladies, clearly you figured out the response I was looking for

i read the posts from mom's with toddlers and just wonder how they do it...i suppose the they do it out of necessity!

back to sitting some more...thank goodness for TIVO (and for great DH who baked choc. chip cookies!)

I wish I was so lucky. This is my first baby and he insists on being up and moving around for much of his awake time. It's enforced exercise, I guess.

That was me with my daughter and boy do I miss it this time around...

I do have a few hours every evening when I just sit on the couch, poor Kienan gets so upset by constant running around and fusses in the evening if I don't just sit and nurse him

Yup, this is the most usage our couch and family room have ever seen! We almost always nurse there, and the cushions are covered by a water bottle, lip balm, the phone, a boppy, a pillow, my blankie, her blankie, the aspirator, baby fingernail clippers, a book and a magazine. I feel lazy, but i've given myself permission to lounge for at least 6 weeks, if not 8, depending on what the MW says at my 6 week check-up on Thursday. I can't wait to start walking and being more active, though! The couch is a great place for snuggling, nursing, playing and just watching her explore the world in her pack-n-play, which is pushed up next to the couch.

Plus, I keep telling myself... the couch is better than the bed!

We are a couch pair too! Although I have been forgetting to eat because of it, must change that! DD loves to be held and I feel guilty if I put her down!

You enjoy your sitting time...I wish I could!! I did with my first daughter but it's near impossible this time.

With four kids - not a lot of couch time, but I savor the time I do get! (Which would be why I haven't posted much lately)

oh i remember those days with my dd. i loved the all day snuggles on the couch and i am a sucker too for those bad tv shows. we snuggled and nursed on the couch so much that our couch had flattened cushions from my butt. not a chance we can do that now. enjoy the time while it lasts! nothing lasts very long in childhood, especially those early days.

mine wishes we could spend that much time on the couch! I definitely did with his sister....that's why I learned to crochet, because all she wanted was to be on mommy! My poor little man, everytime I sit down to nurse, his sister is off exploring some other nook and cranny, and I am chasing her down! I think the little guy has it figured out, though, he "wakes up" at about 11 every night, and he demands for his mommy time! Well, I am off for my cuddles, and then at some point hitting the bed! Enjoy sitting on the couch cuddling....I miss those days!

Good lord, I was starting to feel really bad that all I did during my maternity leave was sit on the couch. I definitely agree with the PP who said that her couch cushions were getting flattened... mine too! Now that I am back to work (sob!!), I come home at the end of the day dying to do something active with him, or play or something, but he really is just content to be held and fed. Which is OK by me too

whether it is lazy or not I am on the couch a lot too!

They grow up so fast i want to savor all the cuddling i can!

I come downstairs at night to nurse too cuz dh is such a light sleeper and we havent mastered the lying down to nurse thing yet. I have become addicted to Roseanne reruns Designing Women, fresh prince...

HA!

This is now becoming a distant memory. I can't recall now the last t.v. show I was actually able to watch in full, let alone a whole movie!

It's big excitement now to catch a few moments on the couch to nurse. She really likes to be up and moving.

We are NEVER sitting down. Aria needs life to constantly change. She wants to be on the move, checking out new places and people. I feel bad for her cause days when we are just home hanging out she is crabby and I think it is that she is bored with me. She always perks up when her dadda gets up (works nights, sleeps days) or if someone comes over. I try to keep things exciting and new but there is only so much you can do with a new baby in the winter- esp one who hates the car!
