Formula bag listed on freebie site

Thread Starter
I frequent a freebie site, and was disappointed to see how many responses a link for the "free" formula bag was getting. A lot of users were signing up women they knew without asking their permission. I posted a quick link to banthebags.org and some info. about the cost of name brand formula in the long run and how these bags can hurt nursing relationships. My intention was not to make anyone feel guilty, just to let people know that some moms wouldn't welcome such a "freebie".

I'm struck yet again by how delicate the subject of breastfeeding is, and how our formula is so entrenched in our culture. I wish people would give it a little more though. Formula companies are not trying to help us. They are big businesses that are looking to bring in more customers.

It's all about the "free" stuff.

But it's FREE y'all! Freeeee! Where do I get mine? *swoon*

I swear some people act like the damn bag is essential to being a mother. It's a bag. Move on.

I'm SO over even hearing about it.

I was on a freebie site once where they were talking about sometihng Nestle was giving out for free (I forget now). I posted a bit about boycotting Nestle and why and put some links and got flamed to no end on how I was making them feel guilty, and its none of my business if they want to use Nestle, and stop trying to make them feel guilty, on and on and on.

I guess free is more important. :

If this is the same one that I was reading, I registered just so I could leave a small rant about the WHO code and stuff. lol

Free stuff is more important than making the best choice, don't you know?

Got some "toddler transition" formula samples in the mail yesterday! Other than flushing it, any suggestions for what to do with it, since I wouldn't feed it to any living thing?

I saw the thread on the freebie site too. I talked to someone (probably here) who recommended me over here- thank you!

The whole thread was infuriating, just so frustrating to read. I'm assuming it was deleted because I couldn't find it today.:

Send it to homes for abandoned/orphaned children or something. Babies who really have no other choice (well, besides wet nursing).

When I had ds, they kept moving me from room to room (small hospital) and somehow I ended up with five of those bags. Free formula: went to a neighbor who was formula feeding and couldn't afford it. All those coupons for things I'd never use: became lovely craft material for 5yo dd (see if you can glue all the pictures of babies to paper and make a mobile for your new brother!) Mine had breastmilk storage bottles, which were actually useful, and the ice packs and the insulated bags themselves are fabulous for long car trips! I'm getting good at this "see the silver lining" business!
