Wow, I had almost an identical conversation with an employee at Motherhood Maternity a few months ago. Here is how mine went down...
Her: Breastfeeding?
Me: Yes.
Her: (Eyeing me suspiciously) Is this your first child?
Me: (Confused) No, my second.
Her: Okay, then I'll put it as a yes. I always put no for the first time moms even if they say yes since most of them can't nurse anyway.
Me: I think you are doing a disservice to those women. With the proper support , nearly 100% of women can nurse. It's what our bodies are built to do.
Her: (back pedaling) Oh, I totally support nursing. I'm planning on doing it, my breasts are huge so I'm sure I won't have a problem.
WHAT?!?! I couldn't believe this conversation even took place. Obviously ill-informed on breastfeeding (what do huge breasts have to do with anything) and disrespectful to a woman's choice to breastfeed. Geez. This place needs to a do a little breastfeeding 101 training for all employees before allowing them to discuss the matter with customers.
