Strange bumps on 5 week old's palm

PICS added. I wish I could show a picture. I was looking at my 5 week old's hands this morning and noticed that on one of his palms, are a cluster of very tiny blisters (red with white centers). Then there is a single isolated bump closer to his wrist. I seriously doubt these are insect bites, because he is with me 24/7 and although we have been outside, he wouldn't have gotten bugs on him. Any ideas what this could be?

edited to say I am looking at them again and they are mostly just white bumps.. not red bumps with white centers.

I already looked at Dr. Sears site and don't see anything that could be related. Milia is common in newborns but it doesn't happen on the palm of hands..

I thought of coxsackie but my kids have had that before and it didn't look like this.

That's a good link. Good luck, DD had a funky rash all over once, but we got through it and she was fine. Check with a pediatrician if you are worried.

I really don't think its coxsackie/hand food and mouth. He has no other symptoms, and I've seen this virus before on my other kids. Plus, I was just looking it up and it says it usually doesn't happen on the palms.

And it's not just a concentrated patch of newborn acne??? My ds#1 didn't get his until he was around 6 wks old.
A picture would really help because I've seen hand and mouth.

There is a form of the oral herpes virus that shows up on fingers and hands. If that's what it is, watch your baby because in rare cases it can be very harmful to newborns, spreading to the brain (!). In most cases it will clear up on its own. From your description it sounds like it could be that.

Infant acne on the palm? I really don't think so..

How can I post a picture on the web? I've never done it.

Is it possible that he has thrush? That can transfer to the hands in the form of a rash if he sucks on them.

Probably the easiest way is to just go to photobucket.com, it's a quick-sign up, and then you'll see the form for uploading a picture. Once you select the picture location and upload it, there will be three boxes below the picture. You want the one that says URL. Just copy and paste the URL into your post here.

As for the rash itself, I have no idea. Just trying to help here where I can.

Don't I have to have herpes to pass it on to him? I don't have herpes.

85% of adults have (dormant) hsv1.

Do the bumps have a dimple in the middle? That could be molluscum contagiosum.
But it sort of looks fungal to me. I'd probably get it checked out when you can.

Here, it says molloscum contagiosum doesn't occur on the palms.
