Needle Size and PUL

Does the needle size matter when you're sewing PUL? I mentioned before that my AIO's were leaking and now I've made a pocket dipe, and it's also leaking. I didn't topstitch this diaper, but I still have wicking around the legs. The needle I used was a ball point 80/12.

That's what I use also. Did you wash and then throw them into the dryer on high heat to seal the PUL?

Print or solid PUL?

The PUL is solid 1 mil polyester knit. I have washed and dried the diaper a few times on high heat. Oh and I also used 100% polyester thread.

The diaper seemed to hold before but maybe it wasn't soaked then. Yesterday we went shopping at Ikea and the diaper started leaking after about an hour. I really want to use the pul, but I'm at a loss as to why it's not working for me.

I use size 14 needles and haven't had wicking problems. IMO, your problem probably lies with absorbancy. My 3 1/2 month old dd is a super heavy wetter and if I don't pay close attention, she can wick out of a pocket stuffed with a microfiber towel & a 8 layer hemp jersey soaker in 1 1/2 hours. That combo can hold some older babies overnight. Not my girl! HTH!
