tounge tie?

how can you tell if a 1 month old has tounge tie?

My DD makes a clicking sounds while nursing {which is getting worse}, latches on then lets go a lot, and nursing is getting more and more painful on my nipples. Her latch is correct, so I'm not sure what is causing it.

She's gaining good {2 lbs in 1 month} so I'm not sure what is causing our probelms.

I'd ask her pedi - but he is super ignorant of breastfeeding.

My DD was tongue tied. We did have milk supply issues because of it, (and she wasn't gaining enough) but that isn't always the case. There was clicking. I was in extreme pain and had severely damaged nipples. Her tongue looked heart shaped when she cried because of the frenulum pulling it down. There are different degrees of tongue tie though, so you might not have all of these symptoms and still have a tongue tied baby.
My DD's ped (and two pediatric specialists) agreed that she was tongue tied, but said it didn't affect breastfeeding (ha! they thentold me to supplement because my DD wasn't gaining enough weight!)
I finally found an IBCLC family doctor who helped me. http://twofloridadocs.com
She has tongue tie information on her site.
Good luck

If you look in her mouth, try to gently pull her tongue out and up. How close is it attached? Is it attached close to the front? THat's the easiest way to tell- looking at the tongue itself. . .
Good luck!!
DH is tongue tied, and never had it corrected. He had many years of speech problems and to this day still has problems with other tongue activities, like kissing.

If it's a tongue tie, get it fixed! It's so easy, so not a big deal. My husband has one and I hate it. It really does screw up kissing.

Clicking can be other things, though. Mine clicked. Turns out I had horrible thrush. She had it too but didn't look like it (just a white tongue which can be normal). I was treated with diflucan, she with oral nystatin, and that solved our problems... that I thought were almost insurmountable. They click because their mouths hurt from the thrush
