So DP and I are planning on TTC starting in December. I figure I will ovulate around the 12th of December. We plan to start having a lot of sex around the 7th as we're going away on a very romantic vacation and we're anxious to TTC. What I'm wondering is: is it possible to have too much sex too soon before ovulating, thus decreasing the odds of conceiving (sperm count) right before or at ovulation? To give you an idea of what I think may happen, I figure there will probably be 2 ejaculations per day from the 7th to the 12th. Does this decrease our odds if I actually ovulate on the 12th or even the 13th/14th? I thought I understood a lot about fertility, but this one issue is bugging me. We are really hoping to conceive during this vacation due to timing issues so we're willing to do whatever it takes to increase our odds. Thanks!

My mom gave me this for Christmas and I absolutely love it. Gorgeous illustrations and very sweet ideas inside. Plus it's just structured enough so that I can be creative about what I include...

geez louise that's a lot of babydancing!!
i don't have much expertise here, but from what i have read, not only might your dh's spermies need some recovery time, there is an issue of crowding (i have no idea how that makes sense) around the cervix.
if you can pinpoint your O close enough, i would plan to have all the fun you want until about three or four days before O, then time your bd-ing to once a day at the most (lots of people just say every other day) for those days just before. and then once the day after just in case and just for fun.

I'm not able to time it very well as my cycles aren't quite regular enough to do that (I'd likely be off just the number of days it would take to miss!). Does TCOYF talk about this? Where else could I read up on it?

the literature is not in agreement
but of course... I have read conflicting things on this. The plurality view seems to be BD every other day (for sperm count reasons). My DH was offended by that -- he thinks his fishes are infinite!
I think we'll settle on once per day each day we're there, with maybe one day off nearer the end and closer to ovulation. I wish the timing weren't so important so we could just do whatever and wait and see. Hopefully it happens fast for us; it certainly did previous times (got pregnant the first time without BC with both previous kids--not just the first cycle, but the FIRST TIME!).
