Concerned with 5yo behavior!

Need advise if this behavior is typical or if my grandson could have ADD. I stay at home and keep my 5 yo grandson when he's not in school. I don't remember my children behaving this way when they were young so I'm worried. He can't hold still, he appears restless, wiggling around constantly, he talks non stop. Even when we sit down to eat he has to be moving some part of his body. I'm concerned because my children were active but they were never that active to the point they couldn't hold still. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm just getting old and worrying too much about nothing.

If he was 3 or maybe even 4, it would sound like normal behavior to me. I don't have a 5-year-old quite yet, so I don't really know what's normal for a 5-year-old. Has his mother expressed any concern about his behavior?

My 5 Y.O. DD is like that. She is always on the move and doing something active. It can wear me down at times but it is just her personallity. I don't think there is a problem, just that some children are more active than others. I look at it like this: at least she wants to engage her mind instead of vegging out in front of the TV. I just give her lots of activites to do and we go to the park, library, bookstore and so on quite a bit.

Well, he probably has to do a LOT of sitting still at school. So the time outside of school is his main chance to really be active.

If it is just "wiggliness" and not really any other problem behaviors, I wouldn't sweat it. But, I'm no expert.

Thank you all for your comments. I will try to engage him more in some activities. I guess maybe I'm just a worry wart...... Again thanks.

My 4 year old ds is is the same way. At his last appointment, I talked to the ped about it and he said that he was a hyper kid and not ADD at all.
