I can't find a midwife.....

I have to go through our insurance because we can not afford to pay for a midwife. There are none even close to us on our insurance plan. The closest MW is 3hrs away. Not really possible, yk?

All of my babies have been birthed my my OB/GYN, but he died last year (stroke) so now I need to find someone new and was really hoping to find a MW.

Oh well......

If you insurance plan takes midwives, they should have one available in your area. Do you mean there are no midwives near you? If there is a midwife near you, I would call and see about her checking into getting on your insurance plan. IMO, it's wrong for an insurance company to cover midwives, but not have any on your plan in your area.

Good luck!

In a lot of states, and with a lot of insurance practices, the midwives aren't listed in the provider directories. Go to www.acnm.org, follow the find a midwife link, then get the list of the 20 closest practices to you. Take that list and call the midwives on it to find out if they take your insurance.

If you still can't find someone, pm me and we can talk about other options.

I mostly lurk here, but I am a doula and assistant midwife, also a nurse-midwifery student and have been working in childbirth for about five years. I probably have some other ideas for you, but don't want to give you a complicated laundry list that would be overwhelming.

Good luck!

Casmi~For different reasons, I found myself without a midwife, and was really down, because I had such a vision...anyway.
On the next full moon, set out your intention. IE: "I will have a midwife", I did this, the NEXT day, I got a really GOOD call!
Be careful not to use the word "want" though...

Peace,
