NT and veggie?

: Ok, stupid question maybe, but I've been vegetarian for close to 10 years now, dh for one, and ds from birth (however I'm not opposed to him eating meat when he's old enough to ask...any day now, I'm sure ). Would it be worth it for me to buy the Nourishing Traditions book when we don't eat meat? Are there many vegetable-based entrees or is there enough other valuable stuff to make up for all the meat recipes? Personally, I never enjoyed eating meat, that's why I don't BUT I really appreciate traditional foods. We do eat dairy and eggs. And I try to use as much unprocessed stuff as I can. I really believe in the ideals of a traditional diet...I think I'm looking for a happy medium (dh can't give up his Morninstar veggie nuggets). Sorry, I'm getting off topic. Thanks in advance!

I would think that there would be lots in there for you to use in your cooking repitoire. The grain/bean recipes enough would be worth checking out.

Have you thought about seeing if you can check it out from the library first? That way you could take a look before you buy and try some things out.

I'm sure the others here will have more suggestions for you.

I think traditional eating and vegetarianism can work together very well, and I think you could get a lot out of NT...but I wonder if there might be an even better book for you. I know there are other books that some people prefer (Full Moon Feast, The Garden of Good Eating, etc.) that I know nothing about so I have no idea if they'd be better for a veggie, lol. So maybe someone who's read more than just NT will have a book rec for you!

From NT, as a vgetarian, you could get info/recipies on cultured dairy, eggs, soaking/sprouting grains, soaking seeds, and beans. I think this stuff is worth knowing. Maybe you could skim through a copy at the bookstore first?

Thanks for the replies everyone! I haven't seen NT at our library, but we have a statewide system so they might be able to get it from another library for me. I'll try that.

Absolutely worth it. I don't agree with alot of it, but it is an undeniable wealth of information. As a vegan I still referred to it from time to time.
