Do I need CLO?

I eat eggs and raw butter practically every day...would taking cod liver oil be too much vit. A and D? There is sooo much conflicting information out there and I am afraid I might do more harm than good taking CLO but am drawn to the supposed health benefits I've read in NT and online. Also, if I take CLO would using ground flax seed as well be too much omega 3? Can anyone relate to wanting to noursish yourself and your family but wanting to get on with the rest of your life as well? I feel like I will consumed with researching the latest nutritional new the rest of my life. Sorry for the rant I would love to hear from you all as this is truly important to me.

I definitely don't think it would be too much A or D. You can take as much or as little CLO as you need. You don't need to worry about getting too much Omega-3's in your diet by eating flax seeds and CLO.

I think that as long as your A and D is coming from natural sources, you don't really have to worry about overdosing.

At the same time, it costs a lot of money to buy clo. I reserve mine for ds. I figure I can get enough from food sources. If I could afford it, I would go ahead and take them.

i don't think you can have too much vitamin A or D from natural sources. i would go ahead and take the CLO. take the daily minimum of 5ml (a teaspoon) and not a drop more if your still overly concerned about ingesting too much.

i don't think it's possible to get too much vit A from natural sources, as i've heard that with vit A your body only uses what it needs...but i do remember reading from Dr. Mercola that it is possible to get too much vit D. i think he recommends taking fish oil in the summer when you're more likely to get enough exposure to sunshine to be able to meet your vit D needs, and CLO during the winter when sun exposure is significantly less......

Actually, you can overdose on natural vitamin A, but it would take a lot. It happened to a few explorers in the early 1900's. They ate polar bear liver, which has tons of vitamin A, and developed toxicity symptoms within hours.

That's true, sort of. You'd have to be outside either several hours a day in a t-shirt and shorts or at least an hour a day in a swimsuit during the 10-2 UVB time to make enough vitamin D for this to be a concern.

Yikes, that is some potent liver. I hope they were okay!


Thank you for all your replies and links! I am feeling comfortable about taking the minimum 1 tsp dose. I don't eat lots of beef liver and lard yet (when we start buying 1/2 and whole meat from grass fed farmers in the area), so I think I will supplement in the meantime and assess my vitamin A and D levels again in the future. Thanks again!
