what to use as absorbent layer?

OK, so I make diapers and sell them, but now, after making a bunch, I'm rethinking the materials I use. I currently use flannel and woven cotton terry (like a regular bath towel). But, I really don't like working with the terry. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend another material that would be as absorbent and similar in cost (so I wouldn't have to raise my prices!), like $5 a yard or less?

i got some hemp terry scraps from a friend, i think its pretty cheap at hepmtrader. its not like a towel though, its loops on one side and like knit on the other. very absorbant too. ive heard of hemp stinking but i havent noticed and ds's inserts have been hemp since day one, i just wash on hot

I second the hemp. I use hemp fleece in all of my diapers. You can probably find it for around $5, especially if you are buying in bulk.

Hemp is super absorbent and very trim. I use three layers in a daytime dipe and 6-9 layers in a nighttime dipe. It keeps my baby very dry.
