how concerned should i be? (and is there something i can do to alleviate concerns?)

so, i am exhausted and sick, and in a moment of thick exhaustion, threw away my "mini" birth control pills (mini, b/c i am nursing). my ds is 11 months, and i nurse very frequently, though he is eating solids, too.

i have still not started my period since i conceived.

i have now been five days without the pill. on the third day, my dh and i made love.

how worried should i be? is there anything i can do to make sure i'm not pregnant (besides waiting to take a test)?

furthermore, is there anything, besides using a condom, that i can do to make sure we're not making another baby in the next month? i can't afford to buy another pack of pills for several weeks.

thanks so much for your help!

by the way, i'd be interested in not using the pill, but am scared to just go on hormone levels and things. but am open to learning and such! ps--am VERY fertile

Well, I would guess your chances of being preg. are pretty darn slim. I would try not to worry. You can learn to chart your cervial fluid and temperature instead of taking the pill, but it takes time to learn. If you want to learn more check out the book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility. www.tcoyf.com

Thanks for your reply, Laura! I agree that my chances are pretty darn slim, but my dh, in particular, is worried, because this is quite similar to how we got pregnant the first time. the big difference is that instead of 3 days without the pill, we had been 2 weeks, probably more time for my body to kick in and ovulate. not to mention, i wasn't nursing!

I will check out the tcof book and site--thanks!

Do you know if there are such a thing as ovulation strips? Such verification could help my dh stop worrying.

Sorry... but I'd be worried, too. The mini pill is MUCH easier to screw up than the "regular" pill. It's absolutely vital that you take it at the same time every single day. I took it every day, religiously, but was sometimes an hour or two off from my regular time when I took it. Ask my 5 month old how that worked out for us...

There are things that women use to predict ovulation- you pee on it each day and it tells you if you are having the hormone surge that women get about 1-2 days before Ovulation, but if its either before or after that, it doesn't help you know what's really going on.

sorry your dh is freaking.
