I hate heartburn!!!

Anyone else want to join the club? I can't believe i'm only 6 weeks along and already getting heartburn. How depressing.

The culprits so far have been pizza last week (tomato sauce - understandable) and carrot soup last night. That was the *worst*, and I cannot figure out why carrot soup would've given me heartburn.

Anyhow, you'd think after two pregnancies I would've figured out a wonderful heartburn remedy, but I haven't. I can and will avoid the trigger foods of course, but it seems that with each pregnancy the trigger foods are slightly different...thus there is a steep 'learning curve' in the beginning.

Anyone have any wonderful heartburn remedies to pass along?

I'm not from your ddc, but I had to comment! Its not necessarily what you're eating that causes it. If I drink too much water I get heartburn The high levels of hormones relax the muscles in your GI tract, including the sphincter muscle at the top of your stomach. My heartburn kicked in last week, ugh. I decided a few days ago that I cannot take anymore Tums. They make me so sick. I bought some Rolaids "Soft Chews" in vanilla flavor and they are great! I try not to take them too often because they can constipate you, but I keep them next to my bed at night and chew whenever I can't take it anymore.

I swear this pregnancy has been the worst so far. I am exhausted all day long, constipated, moody, heartburn, headaches...you name it, I got it I can't wait for the 2nd trimester

Thank goodness I'm not getting heartburn yet...just more gassy. They said something about your digestive process slowing down so that the nutrients can be absorbed better for baby?

Anyway - not liking that much, but I'll take it over heartburn.

You might try the apple cider vinegar drink for it. It often helps right away. 1 tsp of raw apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water with a little raw honey. I also love papaya enzymes and digestive enzymes by Wellness Resources. THey help everything digest well without the heartburn.
Good luck.

Papaya enzymes didn't help me much in the past, but it's always worth a try! I will try the apple cider vinegar thing though - I hadn't heard of that one before!

Oh Mere! I'm so sorry to hear about your awful hb.

With my son, I had HORRIFIC hb from about 9dpo until the minute he was born. Every day....every minute. It didn't matter what I ate or what was going on....it was just there.

I ate A LOT of Tums, but later had papaya enzyme to cut down on the sheer volume of Tums I was consuming. The pe didn't completely help me, but it made it bearable, so I only needed 1 Tums after that, instead of 4.

As for another remedy option, I just steered clear of anything remotely acidic - any citrus, etc. When my ms kicked into high gear (about week 8), most of the remedies for that involved lemon. Ummmm.....NO! I did get a great suggestion to sniff lemon. It really worked! I kept a fresh lemon on my desk at work at all times and would just hold it up to my nose when I started feeling pukey.

I hope it subisdes a little for you and doesn't cause you too much more grief.
