First Appointments?

When do we make our first apt??? I know some of the women have already gone but it was my impression that they might have a higher risk pregnancy...
I feel really good and havent had any signs that things are wrong plus I've never miscarried and had a very successful pregnancy and delivery with ds. So when shoule I make the call? I will be 7 weeks on saturday... I remember with ds they didnt do an ultrasound until 10 weeks so I dont want to waste money to go in and have a checkup...
When is everyone else going in???

I'm going to call my birth center around 10 weeks...they can't hear the hearbeat until 10-12 weeks anyway (if you choose to use doppler), and I don't do early ultrasounds. So...there's really not much point (for me) to go in any earlier than that.

my first appointment is not until nov 7th. i'll be 11 weeks.

My first appt is next week...most of the practices in my town (OB, family practice, and midwives) want to see a mama between weeks 8 and 10.

If you're not positive about the care provider you're using, you might go sooner so that you'll be able to "interview" different providers. Many practices wont charge for a meet/greet appointment.

Also, if you're wondering about just making the phone call...I'd do it sooner rather than later since it may take a while for them to have an appointment that fits your schedule!

I went to my first appt last week. Actually it was a finish up of my well woman and I ended up telling them that I thought I was pg. So they did a test there are the office and confirmed.

We tried to take a look via transvaginal ultrasound, but couldn't see anything.

My dr had be come back this week again to see if we could "find" the pregnancy. We did see a distinct black circle this time (this print out is not as sharp as the screen was of course), but still couldn't see the yolk sac, so I go back again next Wed. We also took some blood, but I probably won't hear anything about those results unless there's an abnormality.

But just before the dr walked out of the room, he points to the ultrasound and goes, "Oh, what is that over there?" (see red arrow below)

Then he goes, "Look like twins maybe."

So now I'm even more anxious to go back again. Of course, I want to see that things are going as they should with the pregnancy, but I also want to definitively see either one or two babies. So my next appt is Wed, the 18th.

It is the same around here. They want to see you between 8 and 10 weeks.

I had two early HCG draws (due to previous ectopic) and have an ultrasound on 10/23 for a study of early pregnancy that I am in. My MWs want to see me around 10 weeks for the first prenatal, so I'll call them after the u/s.

My midwife doesn't have a set schedule, you just kind of call her when you are ready. Right now I'm thinking I'd like to wait until right around the start of second trimester, which would be mid-December. We'll see, I might find that I want to go sooner. But that's what I'm leaning toward.

I'm going to the initial consultation with my midwife next week. We won't hear the heartbeat until the following appointment in November.

I just interviewed a new midwife yesterday and my first official appt with her is on Nov. 14th, at 10 weeks.

I have an appointment when I'll only be 6.5 weeks, but I'm still in exploratory mode. I have to decide if I am going back to my family doctor (in a hospital) for this baby, or if I want to go to the North Shore Birth Center. I also have to find out if I am low-risk enough for them to take me.

Plus I'm also really excited and wanting an appointment so I feel like I'm "doing something".

I've normally gone in around 8 weeks for the first visits. I'm switching ob/gyn this pg so I need to find one. I'm excited to make an appt and make this feel more real!

Mine is set for Nov. 9th. I have an u/s first and then dr appt. I can't wait!!!

Just home from our first appointment and I think I love this new ob/gyn practice (I'm too high risk for my old practice, and this one is 100% pro-VBAC).

The appointment went for a little over an hour and a half. We didn't do the blood draws but we did do an early u's and they saw the babe! Little wiggle brine shrimp right where they should be! They thought that maybe the spotting is from my cervix since it seemed red/inflamed. I may need to lay off the baby-dancin' (well, anything penetrative at least) for a few weeks to see if things calm down but other than that the doc was really encouraging.

Hmmm...we did blood pressure and a urine test along with height and weight. Starting with the next appointment I'll be doing the blood pressure/urine/weight on my own and letting the nurse know if there is a problem. And we'll do the blood draws next time (Nov. 21st) too.

I'm off to my first mw appointment tonight. Dh is still a little skeptical about me having this baby anywhere other than in a hospital so hopefully after he finishes quizzing the mw he'll feel a little more relaxed. For me, I'm just so excited to have an appointment at 8 weeks, much earlier than I expected. This is getting more and more real!

Yeah, I broached the idea of homebirth with DH this morning as he was leaving for work.

Well, actually, he saw what I was looking at online and joking said, "You aren't planning a homebirth this time, are you?"

But I really, really want a waterbirth. I keep moving in that direction. Everything I read or think is pushing me that way.

But I might not qualify to give birth at the birth center due to a restriction that I think is reasonable for a normal woman, but maybe should apply differently to someone with my particular situation. (Anemia in a normal woman is a sign of a problem. My anemia is due to the limited size of my red blood cells, and therefore NORMAL for me.)

DH sort of shuffled off to work mumbling, "I don't want to build a birthing tub!"

Hmm... I wonder if my doctor could get permission to use a rental tub at the hospital. Or maybe the new hospital has tubs?

I need to relax a little and find out more stuff. I over-think everything.
:

Because I don't actually want to give birth at home unless I do MAJOR renovations before that happens, and I don't think I can afford those renovations...

I'm going to go relax now!

DP and I are leaving in a few mins for our first appointment with the HB Midwife. I hope he feels more comfortable with the idea of HB after this.
