For the past three days we have had road work being done in front of our house. On Wednesday they took off the top layer of blacktop, and yesterday and today they have been paving. My three year old has been having the absolute best time watching them! Honestly, I think we've spent at least three hours a day watching them work (they're doing a mile long span, so they make about six passes a day in front of our house). These guys have been sooo nice to my daughter! The first day was all smiles and waves, the second day was offers for rides on the equipment (nice, but no, I don't think so!), and this morning one of the guys got off the paver to bring her one of those little packaged apple pies - saying that he had his wife pack an extra one just for her. I don't know how we are going to fill our days next week without them!

That is awesome. Have you guys thought about doing something nice for them just to show you appreciate both their hard work and kindness towards DD? Maybe have her "help" you bake something simple for them (mufifns perhapse)? It also sets a great example for your DD to do nice things for others

Oh, that's a great idea, yogachick79! Unfortunately they are gone and won't be back. I was thinking about writing a letter to the paper though...

That is so nice. I think they look forward to little things like that as they are out and about working. Makes them feel better about their families and reminds them of their children. I KNOW when DH used to see women babywearing at a grocery store he was putting water lines in he ALWAYS came home to tell me how much it reminded him of me. There were times he was afraid he'd scared a few of them by asking where they got their gear.

How sweet! Stories like that are so great!
Reminds me of the time last year when my mom and 4-yo nephew were walking out of lunch alongside 10 state troopers. My nephew asked my mom where the patrol cars were. One of the troopers heard him, and spun around to say, "Right over there. And if your grandma doesn't mind, you can come sit in one." So he took them to the patrol car and let my nephew sit in the car, and even showed him how to turn on the lights and siren! I think it was the high point of my nephew's life!
So many grownups seems to be irritated by kids that it's so nice when someone takes time out of their busy days to really make a kid's day, isn't it?
Thanks for sharing!

I think something in the paper would be awesome. Like one of the OP said, it is great when people are kind to our kids because it is true, too many people treat children like they are a bother these days.
