How many layers for various fabrics?

I am making ChloeToes style AIOs, and would like input on how many layers I should put in these diapers. I have the following fabrics:

cotton french terry
hemp/cotton terry
hemp/cotton fleece
bamboo/cotton velour (hasn't arrived yet, so I am not familiar with the thickness)

I was thinking of doing 2 layers, plus 2-layer soakers, for a total of 4 layers. Will this be absorbent enough?

For my aio's I generally just use one top layer (which would probably be the cotton terry/velour or bamboo velour) and 3-4 inner soakers of hemp. Anything more, in my experience, will take forever to dry and I've found I don't really need additional layers during the day. I've found that 3-4 layers are plenty absorbent.

I'm assuming you will be using something not listed (PUL, windpro, etc.) for the outer cover layer?

I wouldn't use the bamboo/cotton velour as a soaker layer, but I've got a heavy wetter. I use that only as the diaper inner so it is soft again baby. I've found that bamboo also has amazing stay dry qualities, which is great!

I have "quick dry" laid-in soakers that are sewn only on one end to the front of the diaper (2 layers), then 2 more layers of the same fabric, the whole size of the diaper. So it sounds like with the 4 layers total, I should be okay. I guess I could always lay in an extra soaker if I have a kid who pees a lot! (I am modifying the CT pattern a little bit, as you might have noticed).

Yes, I have PUL on the outside of that.

When you say bamboo has good stay dry qualities, do you mean it's not very absorbent?

You can always add a doubler, but I do like diapers with two body layers and 4 soaker layers of the kind of materials you have listed.

Bamboo velour 'feels dry' when wet, I think that is what the pp meant by stay dry qualities.
