scared- need some advice

hey mamas. i am so worried right now. i noticed some light pinkish spotting today and i just don't know what to make of it. i have had no cramping at all, and the spotting happened twice today- once in the morning and then at lunchtime. i don't have an appointment at the birth center until november 13th. i want to call my midwife, but i don't know what they would/could do. i'm 6 weeks right now, and never had any problems with this during my 1st pregnancy. any advice?

If I were you, I would simply call your midwife, and tell her exactly what you've written here. It won't hurt a thing to call, and will likely set your mind at ease.

FWIW, my mother-in-law delivered 4 healthy boys and spotted during the first trimester of all of her pregnancies.

Try not to worry... just make the call!

Like KsMama said, I would call your m/w right away and tell her you're scared and spotting. She will most likely be able to put your mind at ease either over the phone or with a visit.

Although it has not hapened to me, I have heard that spotting is common during the first trimester.

I would also go ahead and make the call. She may not be able to "do" anything. But she may be able to prevent a problem by instructing you on what you can try to do or not do.

Sorry you're having to worry, but the others are right. It could be perfectly normal and healthy. Your midwife would probably want to know and be able to give you some support. Best thing you can do is take it easy and be extra good to yourself. I'll be thinking healthy baby thoughts for you!

I would call the midwife. If she's concerned, she can schedule an ultrasound to check the baby.

How are you doing mama? I hope everything is ok. Some people just spot during pregnancy. My aunt spotted for the whole first trimester and went on to have a healthy baby. I agree that you should contact your Midwife if you are concerned. I'll say a little prayer for you.

update...

thanks for everything ladies! the support here is so wonderful. i called my midwife and we discussed everything- she felt that at 6 weeks the bleeding may be a result of placenta formation. she was really optimistic since i haven't had any pain/cramping. still... the bleeding's a bit more today which makes me worry. my midwife said we could do one of three things: 1. wait and see what happens 2. have bloodwork done to check my hcg levels or 3. have an early ultrasound. so, i have some thinking to do. in the beginning i wanted my pregnancy to go with minimal intervention, but at this point i don't even care anymore- i just want a healthy baby.

I spotted a lot when I was pregnant with dd (and I'm spotting again this time while keeping my fingers crossed)...I did have an early u/s at 8 weeks just to make sure everything was okay. It was SUCH a huge relief to see dd the "baby brine shrimp" wiggling and fluttering. So while I understand your concerns about interventions, sometimes the peace an early u/s brings is worth it. Stress isn't something you need right now and although an u/s can't stop a mc it might be able to let you know one way or the other what is going on.

There's a thread in the general "I'm pregnant" forum called "When the spotting was okay" that you might want to check out. Spotting (and even heavy bleeding) does happen to a lot of mamas (despite what the books say!) and there are some really hopeful stories there if you're in the "spotting mamas" camp. I know I've been pulling a lot of support from that thread since my own spotting keeps coming and going.

Anyway, know that you're not alone, and that you should go with your heart...would seeing the heartbeat help you feel more calm? Or would you worry more about a threatened mc once you "saw" your babe? Are you at peace with the "waiting" approach (though really, there's nothing that can be done this early in a pregnancy, and nothing you can do to make a m/c happen...it's hard to remember that, but no matter what happens, it's NOT something you did!).

I had an isolated spotting incidence with my second pg and I remember freaking out. My dr pretty much told me there was nothing I could do at that point anyway (I was 5 weeks.) That little one will be 5 in a week.
