First Kombucha

Help... I made my first batch of Kombucha and it is going on a week that it has been brewing, so I decided to try it. It is definatly too sweet for me. It tastes like syrup, did I do something wrong? The store bought that I tried did not have the syrupy sweet taste that this does.... what to do?

Depending on temperature, it is supposed to take 7 to 14 days. The first batch always takes a little longer, so I would continue to let it brew and check it every couple of days while trying not to disturb the top too much. A new solid scoby should form at the top, which is sometimes an indicator whether the kombucha is ready. If the top only has tiny pieces or a partially formed sliver of scoby, chances are good that it's not done yet.
