water breaking stories

Now that I'm looking like I'm due any day, I tend to find that moms in my playgroups like to come up to me and share their birth stories. Granted, most of these involve main-stream hospital births. I like to listen and see their excitement. I had a mom come tell me about her second child yesterday - for whom she was put on three months of bedrest. After being released from bedrest at 36 weeks, she went a week with nothing happening. One day she walked into a grocery store in a skirt and sandals by herself. As she was standing in line to check out - whoosh - her water broke all over the floor. She said there happened to be nothing but men around her and she was horrified. Luckily one man was a husband/father who helped her get to the car with groceries and made sure she made phone calls to get on her way to deliver. I thought it was a cute story.

My own water broke while lying in bed laboring - somewhere between 6-8 cm...so not quite as interesting. Still, most water-breaking stories don't resemble the hollywood drama we are used to. Care to share your story? I thought it might be amusing while we pass the time and wait for our babies (or nurse our newborns).

My second birth my water broke on the bed about 2.5 hours into a 5 hour labor.

But my first birth...I saw some blood in the toilet after I peed and wasn't sure what that was about. So I was on hold w/my mws when POP! my water broke. So I was stradling the bedroom wastepaper basket, fluid gushing, talking to the midwife.

I will forever love my dh for dumping and washing out the trash can before I got home from the hospital. Ewww!

Not from your DDC but saw the post... When I was expecting our first my parents had a going away party for my sister's friend (they had temporary guardianship of her while her mom was in the military.) So my water broke in front of approximately 50 high school sophomores. Only it wasn't water, it was blood from a placental abruption. Needless to say, the party ended pretty soon after that. It's funny because we'll have random strangers come up to us at shows or bars and say they were there when I went into labor. I guess the sight of a pregnant lady hemmoraging all over the place is something that's hard to forget.

The second time my water broke about 3 minutes before delivery after 4 hours of labor. Not nearly as interesting but very convenient.

My 1st water was broken in the hospital (which led to my c-section. sigh).

2nd water broke when I was like 8cm and I was leaning over the edge of the couch contracting.

3rd water broke at 1:45am in bed right after I rolled over from yelling at dh about something lol. I had no contrax prior to this or anything. Just pop. Then she was born 3hrs later exactly. The funny thing was that I was 43wks and I had gone to walmart by myself about 3hrs earlier. So it could have happened in walmart for me.

My first pg, water was broken in hospital for an induction.

But the second pg, it was more interesting. At 39 weeks 2 days, I was out shopping for groceries in the evening, and I ran into an old college teacher. I had been his aide for a year or two, also, so he was interested in catching up with me. He wanted to meet my kids (my DH had them while I got the groceries), and he asked if it would be okay to stop by for a bit. I agreed, went home, put away the groceries, and went to settle in until he showed up. I sat down and invited my 2yo ds to sit on my lap and read a story. Well, my ds jumped into my lap a little too enthusiastically and landed on my belly really hard. I felt a gush--yes, my 2yo had broken my water! So I ran off to the bathroom, leaving my husband to explain to our old teacher (who was just then knocking at the door) that my water had just broken. When I came back out, we went ahead and visited for 45 mintues or so, as my contractions were still pretty far apart at that point, and we decided what to do after he left. As it was evening, my contractions weren't really that close together, and my first labor had taught me a GREAT appreciation for being well-rested during labor, we opted to go to bed. Slept some, labored in bed through the early morning. Ended up heading to the hospital at around 7, had her at about 8 am.

My first water break was in the hospital, pushing hard for 1 hour then my water finally broke, it popped shot across the room , they had to tell DH to keep his face away cause more fluid could come out (sorry TMI) .

Second water break was after all day of leaking(sorry to TMI again )
I laid down and was just drifting off Ann, snap, gush, "what was that?" stood up, "OH".

My water broke while standing at my desk in my home office. It was about nine o'clock at night and I was doing "one last thing" before going to bed. Instantly my legs and feet were soaked, and I couldn't stop laughing! I seriously thought for a minute that I had peed my pants!

Most unfortunately, my water did break in Walmart. You must know that I am in no way a regular Walmart Shopper. I have boycotted it vehemently and only succombed to patronize it when my mother was visiting and wanted to teach me cribbage to pass the time during labor. Walmart was the only store open to buy a cribbage board. So, the second time I ever entered Walmart, I had my water break amongst trashy feaux furs and everything plastic. My family thinks it is a riot to this day.

Maybe I need to take a trip to walmart to get the ball rolling. Shoot, it worked for my last pregnancy.

With ds, my water broke on the toilet at 4:30am in one of my many trips to the bathroom and ctx started pretty much immediately. He was born at 10:05am.

This time I keep anticipating the same thing...water breaks, then ctx. But, it could be very different! So I'm frustrated...

When my water broke with Chloe I came down and was talking on messenger. I really didn't expect labor to start right away at all. But I started having contax every 5min immediately and she was born 3hrs later. It really surprised me! LOL So now I keep wanting my water to break first again. But like you say... it doesn't even matter if all your other labors go the same way. "It could be very different".

I hate the unknowns. lol

I can reply to this since i was in this due date club in 2002 and 2005

anyway, my first October baby had her water broke in the hospital because they were getting bored with me. morons. :

my last October baby's water broke in my kitchen. and it burned my legs. and it kept gushing out for like an hour. I was taking care of my just turned 3 year old who had just woken up from nap crying (I heard her crying and jumped up and thats when it happened) so it was chaotic. she didnt understand why I had to hold and carry her with a towel between my legs, and my clothes were soaked and clammy for an hour afterwards since i couldnt put her down to change. I was in shock since the baby wasnt due till Halloween and I expected to have the baby late, in November....I just wasnt feeling labor vibes at all.

when dd was composed, i put on some clean clothes, a pot of soup, and called my spouse and my birthing friends who arrived over the next few hours and my gorgeous son was born 8 hours later at home :
