Your favourite E.O. combinations?

I'm looking for the best E.O. combinations...to wear as perfume, to mix into my vinegar spray bottle for cleaning, to scent baking soda for room and carpet refreshing, to spray in the air for scent, to simmer on the stove, etc.

What are your favourite essential oil combinations and how do you use them?

Thank you in advance.

I am really loving a blend of patchouli and rosewood right now. I like it in my deodorant spray & just to spritz on whenever. Also used it in a lotion.

My other current favorite is sweet orange eo blended with nag champa fragrance oil. Not purely essential oils but the fragrance is just exquisite. I have that one right now in soap and in a scrub bar that leaves the fragrance on me after my shower.

For cleaning I like straight orange eo in the vinegar. I tried it with mint but really disliked the mint/vinegar combo. Yuck. I'm also not crazy about tea tree oil so I stick with the orange.

For ds I make a lavender sleepy time spritz that I spray on his linens before story time, so that when he goes to bed afterward his sheets are lightly scented.

I just discovered mixing equal amounts (a few drops of each) of patchouli and orange EO in water in a diffuser. Very nice! I also like peppermint and lavender in baking soda for cleaning/general refreshing. Rosemary and eucalyptus are nice too for cleaning products. Once I can stock up again on EOs, I want to get clove and clary sage to mix with lavender -- I have a homemade soap slice that's scented with these oils and it smells soooo good.

One of the suppliers I use that I am always happy to recommend is brambleberry.com - they have very good quality products & great customer service.

For a greater selection of essential oils I like Essential Oil University.

FWIW, I have spearmint and peppermint and the peppermint works out better in the vinegar for cleaning.

I, however, don't know if that is really the fact or if it is the 'brand' or type I used (the spearmint was pretty cheap and at the grocery store).

I suppose that I should add that I find the peppermint extremely wonderful to clean with-- energizing and warming!

As far as sources for oils, Mountain Rose Herb is a great company. Even better, you can support MDC by using the link for "Buy Herbs" that's in the upper left of your screen.

i mix a few drops of eo with my favorite olive oil - strong enough that i only have to use a drop or two of the oil on my skin. I put it in a bottle with an eye dropper to use one or two drops on my wrist, then rub them together and then rub my wrists on my neck or chest.

I use a solid perfume.

Make a balm and add EO to it.

I like mixing lavender and lemon grass but sometimes, if I don't add in enough lavender people tell me I smell like fruit loops.

I love the olive oil base idea, so simple, yet revolutionary! (haha, to me)

Abimommy, I have no idea in the world how to make a balm, could you please enlighten me? I think the lemongrass/lavender combination would probably be wonderful...I must get me from lemongrass e.o. I usually don't like lavender by itself, not much anyway, but I think with lemongrass, that might well work.

That's too funny!

And I would also like to know how to make a balm...

autumnbloom, that's a great idea with the olive oil. I would never in a million years have come up with that on my own (that's why I LOVE this place!).

MMmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

In my vinegar rinse for hair, I have added rosewood & vetiver. Heavenly! Added the vetiver recently... now I want to douse myself in it

(In the BS solution I have rosemary, though it rarely seems to stay... but rosemary combines fairly well also.)

A basic balm is pretty easy.

1 part oil (olive, avacado, safflower, coconut..ect)
1 part butter (avacado butter, cocoa butter, shea butter)
1 part wax (beezwax or calendula wax for vegans)

Just melt down and mix well. Stick in whatever you want to hold your balm and let cool. It will be solid.

If you are using it for lip balm, a lot of EOs cannot be used for lipbalm, Lime EO for instance, is phototoxic. Make sure you check about an EO and whether it is safe for lips.

I use a few drops of peppermit or spearmint EO in lipbalm and it is tingely and fun.

A tip about lemongrass eo, if you can, get Guatamalan (sp?). Some lower quality lemongrass eo smells very... rough. As in, Pledge ran through a jet engine rough. LOL

I'm not really in love with Eucalyptus ....

Anything I can add to it to make it less drab. Actually for my laundry stuff, it ends up smelling like wet laundry left wet to long.

Fwiw

Is there any eo that goes well with tea tree oil?

If not, what would be some nicer smelling antimicrobial eos to put in my post-shower spray?
