So how hard is it to Crochet or Knit?

I was taught by my grandma when i was quite young and remember almost nothing. However i am in love with knit soakers for summer and longies for winter. As i am looking for a new hobbie i figure it may as well be productive.

So how long did it take you to be proficient enough to do a basic soaker?
thanks

I hadn't knitted or crocheted since I was small, I looked at some online sites to recap stitches and terminology, practised making some simple squares ( if you knit with cotton you can use them as wipes!) and then jumped in....its a bit like riding a bike it comes back with a bit of practice.
Go for it!!:

My suggestion is to find a knit/crochet group where you live. If you need help finding one just send me a message and I can help point you in the right direction! The groups are great since there are always people willing to get a newbie knitting/crocheting (for the first time or again after a while)!!!

Until a few weeks ago, I hadn't crocheted in almost 16 years. I don't think I even knew any really good stitches either. I looked at a few tutorials online, didn't even practice, and made the tickle turdle wrap. I was shocked that it looked good. My mom couldn't believe that I made it. I ordered the ladybugz pattern last night for longies, and I have almost finished a great looking pair of longies.

If you have ever crocheted and remember how to chain, you can pick it up SO easily!

soakers were THE reason i started knitting. i began doing a dishcloth and a scarf adn then knitted a soaker. they are super easy. i think i prob. practiced with teh dishcloth and the scarf for about 5 hours before doing a soaker.

you CAN do this! if you knew how before, it will all come back to you. its like riding a bike.

Question for you - can you sew?? Or at least do you know how to use a machine to sew straight lines??

If the answer is yes then you can save a LOT of money buy buying wool sweaters at thrift stores, felting them in your washer, and then sew them into wool soakers/longies. It takes no time at all, it's easy, and really cheap (can't beat less than $2 for a 100% wool sweater that you could get longies out of AND a soaker!!!) There are direction on the forums that are easy as pie!
