Using an old flannel sheet in an AIO

Hi!

I've been researching for days, trying to figure out what to use for my homemade AIO's. I purchased PUL for the outer and suedecloth for the inner layer so this just leaves the soaker.

I'm debating buying some microfiber cloths from costco, or using my old flannel sheets. I would love to use the sheets, since I already have them, no more money spent! BUT I don't want to waste all my new fancy fabric with a second rate inner. Any advice?? From what I have read, the flanned would need 6 layers, the microfiber 3, right? If I do the microfiber, how many towels to make one soaker?

I used old towels and flannel sheets for the first diapers I made. It depends on how thick your flannel is. If you are going to make it an internal soaker, be careful not to put too many layers. I used diaper flannelette from Wal-Mart and put four layers in the soakers once. They were too thick and took forever to dry. So, it is probably wise to make just one or two diapers, mark them on the outside with marker so you know what's inside. Wash them and use them and see what you think. I used to just write under the waist velcro something like 2-3 meaning, 2 body layers, 3 soaker layers. Then I could evaluate without wondering what was what. Personally, I like to use cheaper fabrics inside for the soaker that no one will ever see or feel and use my money for super soft fabric next to baby.
I haven't used microfiber.

I've been using recycled flannel for AIO's and it seems to do the job. I do use terry cloth for the inner soaker though. So my AIOs are two layers of flannel, 3-4 layers of terry cloth for the soaker, and PUL outer. With a doubler, they work really well.
