Washing - was with your CDs, same techniques apply.

Types:
Some brands have waterproofing, some don't. Some have wings to hold the pad in place, some don't. It's all a matter of personal preference. I think to choose what size is right, base it on what you already use, like maxi, mini, whatever.

There are AIOs (just like AIO diapers, they have the absorbent part and the waterproof layer sewn together). www.newmoonpads.com EDITED: New Moons have waterproofing but no wings. http://rhythmandbluespads.com/ has waterproofing and wings.

There are also 2-part systems, where the absorbent part seperates from the waterproofing. Some of these have the absorbent part on top so you can just change the top part during the day (www.amazpadz.com and www.lunapadz.com come to mind). Some have the absorbent part inside an envelope (like the way a pocket diaper works) so you have to change the whole thing not just the insert. (I think www.hagrags.com is a popular brand with holder and liner.)

http://www.diaperware.com/mooncare/mooncare.htm has a bunch of different brands, AIO and 2-part. I'd stay away from the Fuzzi Bunz brand though, I've read nothing but bad reviews about those.

I have a heavy flow and use Ama'z Padz. I used Perfect Pads (I think that's the name) and leaked through those. I tried a few more, can't recall the names. I then tried Mother of Eden Comfort pads (fuzzi bunz). Those were a mess but I liked the idea behind the 2 part design, hated the PUL. That lead me to Ama'z Padz. I find the 2 part design easier to clean because the waterproof part is separate. It could all be in my head but I feel they get cleaner : I love the fit as well. Being that AF is so heavy it really helps having the waterproof liner bigger than the pad. I found the other brands that I tried always leaked over the edges and I don't have that problem with amazpadz. They really feel like they were made for me. I just toss them in the washer, simple! I use Dr. Bronners Lavendar mmmm. Makes them smell lovely.

Hi there...Renee here from newmoonpads.com

Just a quick correction...New Moon Pads do have a moisture proof barrier layer (it's MM fleece backing). Just wanted to clarify.

I would not wash with diapers, because I wash diapers in hot to kill germs, but I wash pads in cold to avoid bloodstains. I wash all my clothes in cold, so I just put the pads in a zippered mesh bag (so they don't get lost among bigger stuff) and put them in with my clothes. When I take off a pad, I rinse out everything that comes out easily, wring it, and hang it on the edge of the laundry basket until wash day.

I don't know what "tyoes" means...what else do you want to know?

I have tried a whole bunch of different brands, and I recommend getting one each of a variety to see which ones you like! Then you can buy more of your favorites.

Brands I highly recommend are:
TLC, two styles of affordable, well-made pads. The longer pantiliners are excellent.
Rhythm & Blues, an AIO pad that unfolds for thorough washing, lies nice and flat when folded, and has waterproof backing...but the square ends aren't good under tight clothes.
Pandora Pads, an envelope style that's very well-made and absorbent...but it's a bit tricky to re-stuff.

The one I really don't like is Cloth Wear 4 Mom, an AIO that's very thin because it is topstitched; the stitching itches me, and the puckery surface is really hard to clean!
