Everything that tea tree oil is good for

Have just obtained a small bottle of tea tree oil and don't know quite what to do with it. I did a search, and the number of posts on here that contain those words is completely overwhelming -- hence, the new thread (sorry).

My question is, what sorts of things is TTO good for, as regards home care and personal hygiene? Tell me everything!

We use it for everything!

Disinfecting:
Put in washer for disinfecting clothes
Mix with homemade cleaners for disinfecting

Heals:
Boils
bites
sore tooth
earring infections

Can be mixed with shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc. for general health. It is just great stuff. Just remember to dilute before using on the skin expect if it is on a boil or infection (I use it full strength on that stuff). HTH

Kills mold!

I make a great disinfectant spray with 3 tbsp. of Dr. Bronner's and 20-30 drops of tto with water. TTO kills E.Coli and Staph bacteria.

When someone is sick around our house (and always forgetting to cover their mouth ) we put some TTO in our steam vaporizer. We sit the vaporizer out in the livingroom or where ever it is that we are sitting and use it to 'purify' the air.

I use it like I would neosporin~for any cut, burn, etc... Helps it heal super fast without scarring. I am currently using it on a burn on my finger. I put it on in the am after my shower, at night b4 bed and when ever else I think of it. I also add a very small amount to my facial moisturizer to help with zits.

I have used it (with other things) to heal yeast infections, cold and canker sores, as a gargle for sore throat/cough (a very small amount w/water) and athlete's foot. It is a great antibacterial/antiseptic oil w/many uses.

Here's a couple of cool pages I found on the first page of a Google "tea tree oil uses" search. http://www.indianchild.com/tea_tree_...s_benefits.htm and

I mop with a boiling hot bucket of water, a few good gluts of white vinegar and 5-10 drops of TTO. The scent lasts for a day or two and it helps to disinfect the floors (since I like to use that mixture in my bathrooms).

I mixed some with water in a spray bottle for spraying soiled cloth diapers and our diaper pail.

I have always used tea tree oil to ward off bugs, mold and yicky's on my scalp and in my dredlocks. It is lovely for all/most skin issues irritations anything that needs cleaning or that just doesn't smell nice. Good stuff.

you use it on hair and bare skin? Are there any ill effects?

What about dandruff -- would this help clear it up if well diluted with water?
I use it for dandruff. My understanding is that it helps with dandruff if it is a yeasty dandruff but not dry skin dandruff. Either put in with your baking soda wash or in your shampoo. I think some people put it in their vinegar rinse.

Its also good for warts and for ringworm.

Does TTO disinfect better then vinegar? I use vinegar or vinegar and peroxide on just about everything! Should I be using TTO too?

Is it safe to use around cats and children? Someone told me it could be toxic.

With the Tea Tree Oil I get, they send a little pamphlet with pages of uses for the oil. When I get home, I'll pull it out and post a bunch of them.

TTO is toxic to take internally..especially in large quantities, but completely safe around pets and children. If they inhale or even lick a little bit it won't hurt them.

DH and I dab it on straight on our adult acne...and it is doing wonders for me.

I second the zit zapper, a little swipe of ACV and a dab of TTO when you feel one starting and it takes care of it.

I've also used it about 20 drops in about a 10oz spray bottle to use on dd's heads when there is lice rumoured to be going around school. I just spray down their hair, braid it, and send them off. TTO is supposed to repel lice.

I like a bit mixed in my shampoo too to help with my scalp. Also have used maybe 10 drops in kids bath then closed the door to steam up the bathroom when dd's are sick.

How would using tea tree oil in your shampoo or rinse be different from using a tto-based shampoo? That's what I generally use anyway, and it didn't seem to be making a lot of difference for me, dandruff wise (which goes up and down as my hormones do their cyclical freak out).

I can't help you, Mynn, but I thought of something else that TTO is good for - Applied topically, it reduces (or takes away) pain.

I'm so glad you posted this! I got my first bottle of TTO today and was going to ask the same thing once I got online.

One more question: How much are you all paying for TTO? I got 1 oz. locally for $11. Should I be able to find it for less?

Thanks!
