sherpa repelling

I was under the impression that sherpawas absorbant material. I tried pouring water on it to see how much it would hold before I washed it and it repelled, then I washed it with a little detergent and some other fabric and it is still repelling water. How many times should I wash it? Was I mistaken in thinking that sherpa it absorbant?

IT depends on what kind of sherpa you got. If you got sherpa with a higher polyester count then it will repel.

If your sherpa is like 90% cotton or better then it will absorb. However, the sherpa at JoAnn's is like fleece, just brushed. So it will act like fleece or poly.

More cotton, more absorbtion! HTH!

It is 80% cotton. I got it from the sewshoppe. Maybe I will throw it in with the laundry and see it multiple washings help.

You could try throwing some vinegar in the wash with it, to strip any chemical off the fibers. Let me know how it goes.

I emailed them and they said it becomes more absorbant after 4-5 washes. I try to throw it in when I wash her clothes. I'm up to 4 washes and the water is now going through. Maybe after a few more washes it will absorb faster. At least now I feel like I can cut it and use it in some dipes.
