fleece questions

So, I got some wonderful fleece "pockets" to stuff with pfs off the TP here, and decided to make some more. I bought some microfleece, stitched them up into pockets, and was very happy. BUT -- when I use them, the pee just runs right off them and often right out of the cover!! What's wrong here? did I get the wrong kind of fleece? Can I do anything to fix this?

TIA,
Mary

there isa wrong and a right side to microfleece. You could also try stripping them.

So, how do I know which is the wrong and which is the right side??

Unless I am misunderstanding what you wrote - you made pocket diapers out of microfleece? Using microfleece for the inner and outer?
If that is the case - microfleece is a wicking fabric. It's mainly used as a top layer of a diaper because it wicks the pee into the absorbent layers and gives baby a more dry feeling. If you want to use fleece for covers or outer layers on a pocket - you need to use regular fleece. Malden Mills is great. Regular fleece does not wick.
If you did use microfleece for the whole pocket dipe, you can just use a cover over them.
HTH!

Yeah, microfleece isn't waterproof and it will leak. You need either Windpro, 200 weight or 300 weight fleece from Malden Mills. I don't think you can use regular fleece from the usual fabric stores, but I could be wrong. I've never actually tried anything other than MM fleeces, but they are AWESOME.

No, I didn't make pocket diapers (that's WAY too complicated for me!), but just pockets to stuff a pf into and then lay into a cover. But the pee runs right off the fleece (I washed them once, then used them) and sometimes out of the cover if there is a gap.

Probably a silly question as you are obviously already familiar with diaper washing, but are you using any kind of fabric softner?
Perhaps try using Dawn dishsoap on the fleece - there has been quite a thread going about it... Dawn can break down any oils that may be on the fabric.

I would wash them a few more times. Your microfleece might have a DWR coating on it or something that is causing repelling. I find fabric is frequently miss-labeled in the fabric stores, so it very well could be your fleece that is the problem.
