I'm trying to knit an Aristcrats soaker - Anyone tried?

I've got the front done and it looks pretty good. It's a pretty thick yarn, prop chunky weight. It's a really soft merino that I'm hoping won't be itchy (please, oh, please!).

I started the top with 1x1 ribbing, then switched to St st and then to using two strands in St st for the bottom of the front and the crotch.

I need it to be really thick and bomb proof for nighttime.

Now don't laugh too hard at me, I'm doing this b/c DH shrunk 2 (!!!) of our actual Aristocrats. Yeah, I know, what's going to stop him from shrinking this?

I would love to find a pattern for a felted soaker....

I also made the Ottobre soaker (http://www.ottobredesign.com/en/prin...r_cover_en.pdf) in chunky wool and felted it. I accidentally felted it a bit too much, but I think it is definitely 'bomb proof'. I'm a little concerned it might be too scratchy, but that is my fault, nothing to do with the pattern or the yarn. I shouldn't have left it so long, I was just overzealous about my felting.

I'm so sorry your aristocrats were shrunk! My dh doesn't do laundry at all, so we never have that problem. But that's fine with me.

I tried the Octobre soaker and it knit up quick, but it was way too loosely knit to be leak resistant. And too small for my little monster. The design was okay. Not great, just okay.

The one I'm making now I have high hopes for. I was trying to replicate the 'crats exactly, but I couldn't figure out how to do the crotch by hand. It seems to be double knit, twice so it's 4x thicker. If that makes sense.

I think mine will be thick enough, but too stiff to be easily wearable. *sigh*

I'm just starting the crotch now. My LYS owner/goddess ( ) suggested I do the ksk stitch there, like you would for a sock heel.

I'm still using 2 strands and so far it seems great. I just have one 1 done so far, so we'll see. It's thicker and stretchy. Awesome!
