Birth Story

Unfortunatly my story isnt as great as most womens. I went in because my 4 year old kicked my in the stomach in the middle of a tantrum, and the contractions started coming consistently and hard soon after. In between the contractions i was having sharp pains in my side. So i got to the hospital and they kept me on the moniter for 4 hours, because of the injury. They then decided that even though i was only 1-2 cm and my contractions werent big enough that they would keep me because of the injury, they couldnt send me home contracting. So they moved me to the labor and delivery part ( i had been in triage ) after about 6 hours of me being there. They checked me again a couple hours later and i was only 3 cm. So they decided because of the injury that they didnt want to take the chance of my placenta being abrubted, and they said my placenta was calcified (i still am not too sure what that means) so they gave me pitocin. After about 10 hours since i got there they checked me again and i was only 5 cm, even with the contractions coming fast and hard. So i got an epidural ( i kno i kno but i was in a LOT of pain) and 3 hours later they said i was 10 cm but couldnt push because a portion of my cervix hadnt thinned out yet, and they had me push with a couple contractions to try and move it manually, but it didnt work, so they told me to wait it out. 4 hours after that, i felt like i had to push really bad, and the docs came in and said it was time. Well my epidural had worn off, they had only given me a small amount, so i felt the last 10 contractions and pushed him without any medication. He came out, they put him on my stomach, and they cleaned him up while i held him. He peed on me! My husband cut the cord after it stopped pulsating (something i heard about on here! ) and i breastfed him. I had to stay at the hospital because i had a hernia (that i had not known about) and because i had complications while delivering the placenta. No tears, no stitches (or episiotomy i think its called) and from there on out everything went the way i wanted. But im still having serious contractions, and in a lot of pain. they said because it was my 5th kid it was to be expected.

He is so tiny though, my smallest child, im just glad to have him home. I had some difficulty breastfeeding because of my soreness, so i pumped instead after the first time, and just held him against my breast while i was pumping. I started BFing again when i got home today. My other kids are so excited they have a new brother, but my daughter is already asking me when does she get a sister! LOL i told her never, because mommy is done having babies! She didnt like that much. And my littlest, well the one who was the littlest, the 10 month old, jsut keeps looking at him. Like, "Who are you?" Its so cute though.

So the little one is crying, time to feed him.

Like i said, not the best of birth stories, and not as great as i had wanted, but my son is healthy and i didnt have any major problems, so its all good.

Congratulations! I'm sorry that you had all those scares. I don't know what a calcified placenta means either. I'm so happy that you and baby are both healthy and happy. He is adorable Enjoy your babymoon!

Oh, he is just darling! What a sweet, serious face he has.

I'm sorry things didn't go the way you'd hoped. Honestly, reading your story I was expecting far *more* interventions. I was relieved that you *didn't* have an abruption!

Congratulations on your new little one.

Oh mama s Pit induced cx are PAINFUL! I think calcified placenta means it is ... NM here I looked it up:

http://www.thelaboroflove.com/articl...calcification/
Quote:
Placenta calcification refers to calcium deposits that appear on the placenta. These calcium deposits indicate an “aging” of the placenta that occurs near the end of pregnancy. These deposits of calcium can cause certain small parts of the placenta to die. The calcium deposits may also cause some parts of the placenta to be replaced with fibrous tissue. The calcium deposits can also obstruct parts of the placenta with clots of maternal blood. They can also harden or block the maternal blood vessels. In most cases, placental calcification does not affect the functioning of the placenta, and the fetus is generally not harmed.
Congratulations on your beautiful baby!!!!!!!
