Brady Patrick is here!!!

Friday the 13th turned out rather surprising and lucky day for us.
I'd spent many days wondering just WHEN I'd go into labor, having had my cerclafe removed two weeks prior and expected to be in labor already. So, instead I went on an on with normal stuff; I had a regular OB checkup that afternoon where I was expecting an internal exam (and an induction threat even though I was only 38 weeks) and to go home ans wait some more...ahhhhhhh, the best laid plans, right?!?! I'd been feeling some dull crampy feeling, but nothing that made me think I was anywhere near going into labor.
I did my BPP at the OB's, but baby didn't show any practice breathing (asleep from a BIG lunch), so they wanted to do an NST but had to wait for someone to be done with it. In the meantime, I was seen by the DR, who then offered to check me internally to which I agreed because I was rather curious about the state of my cervix. As it turned out, I was dilated to 5 cm and rather thinned out...so it was directly to the hospital for me, and poor DS who was along for the ride for the day.
So I'm trying and trying to call my hubby who works an hour away (without DC traffic...but add in the DC traffic and we're REALLY in trouble!!!) to let him know that I'm being sent to L&D. I kept trying to tell him I was going there to be checked out, and my nurse kept telling me there was no way I was going home...do you sense my complete denial here?!?!
I truly was still not really feeling anything at all, though they'd hooked me up to the monitors and showed I was having some good, consistent contractions (menstrual cramps confine me to bed...so I usually have a really low threshold for pain, ) and was now 5 cm, 80% effaced, and -2 station, so I was assured there would be no progress before my hubby got there. We got to the hospital at 3:30 and DH finally made it home from work and to me by 6:15. Right before he arrived, my friend came to take home DS who was really ready to get out (he says, "she rescued me, the hospital was BORING, mommy!!!) and way past his threshold for the day anyway. Me, I was just hanging out wishing I had a good book or something, but I was feeling good at the fact that I still hadn't even thought of an epidural.
When DH arrived, I made him go get himself some dinner, thinking we were in it for the long haul (me, still not believing I was actually about to HAVE this baby, haha!). After he ate his dinner, the nurses suggested getting out of bed to go take a walk around the L&D unit. We walked all through L&D, then over to the Maternal Care Unit to peek into the nursery. I think it was 7:00, and I got to the point where I couldn't walk or breathe anymore, and told DH we needed to head back because I really thought I would be needing the epidural now. He even had to leave me in the hall to get a wheelchair because I couldn't go two steps without grabbing the wall.
My nurses arrived with the wheelchair, into which I could hardly sit, because I felt as if I needed to push...THEN...but I still didn't even think it was time for me to deliver, I just thought they were wicked horrible contractions. I was just about in serious panic mode because everything was going so fast for me that I wasn't even sure what was going on. We got back to my room, got on the bed, and next thing I knew, I was pushing my baby out and joyfully heard the surprising words (we didn't know the gender), "it's a boy!!"
At 7:25 PM on Friday, October 13, Brady Patrick so beautifully arrived in my arms, weighing 7 lbs, 3.5 oz and measuring 19 3/4 inches. He started nursing right away and did wonderfully. Big brother loves having his Brady baby home. Brady's been such an easy baby, eating well and sleeping really well...we're feeling so spoiled and very much in love with our new, bigger family.
