Someday?

Do you think there will ever come a day in the US where it is universally acknowledged that routine infant circumcision is unnecessary and cruel? If so, how far off do you think it is?

I'm so tired of hearing:
"It's MY baby, MY choice!" (Um, is it YOUR penis? )
"It's more sanitary, THAT'S been proven."
"I don't want him to get made fun of in the locker room."

Yes!! I wouldn't be here if I didn't think it was possible to change. Look at all these people who were pro-circ at one time and now aren't.

However, I think we have a long way to go!! I'm up for the ride !!

Yes, I do!! And I would not be surprised to see it happen by the time my grandchildren are being born. (My oldest is 3 years old)

Universally acknowledged? Never - at least until our parents and grandparents are gone. Some people simple will NOT change the opinions they currently hold.

OTOH, I DO believe that eventually circumcision will become a non-issue. Doctors will eventually stop offering it as a valid choice, and peer pressure will swing from pushing people to do it, to encouraging people not to do it. But, as others said, we still have a long way to go.

The thing that keeps me motivated is seeing people on debate or mainstream boards who start out strongly in favor of circumcision, who end up strongly opposed to it. If we can reach those people, we can surely sway those who are on the fence.

I have never seen someone start out opposed to circumcision, learn the facts, and later favor it. So the tide continues to turn our way!

YES! I do think so, there will come a point where the majority in the US believe that. Just look at what is happening north of the border in Canada!

I have seen many articles portraying those sentiments...and more of them seem to surface the lower and lower circ rates are in that country!

YES!! It has to! I think when this generation of babies grow up and become sexually active, the ladies will start to compare notes (and lovers). I think the circumcised fellows are going to find themselves...well, a foreskin short! I also think they are going to be pi$$ed! The sexually active folks now (in the US) are mostly circumcised, so I don't think they have the anger (most of them) that the coming generation has. Does that make sense? I'm NAK'ing which muddles my brain!

If Finland we can do it...

I have to believe it will change. The alternative scares me.
