Thermal Curtains?

Does anyone own these? if so, do they make a big difference with keeping in warmth in the winter and keeping the house cool in summer? I just had an insulation guy come check out our house ( I asked about getting ins. blown in) he said (amongst other helpful hints) if we are not going to stay in our *old* house forever, it would be more sensible for us to get thermal curtains.

Anyway, do you like your curtains?

TIA

Hello! I don't currently have thermal curtains but just wanted to pass on an idea. I'm in the process of sewing together old wool squares (from old sweaters, blankets...) and I'm going to hang it in front of my sliding glass doors for the winter. Kind of a do-it-yourself thermal curtain for those of us with little money. That area is always freezing so I think this will definitely help!

Also, a couple of weekends ago my dh and I blew insulation into our attic ourselves. We bought 20 bags of the non-fiberglass, recycled paper insulation. The machine use was free with the purchase of the insulation. It took us about 2 hours and the grand total was about 175 dollars. It was VERY easy, one person feeds the machine and the other blows it up in the attic. There are a bunch of how-to's online too. It was definitely worth it!

Sorry, you didn't even ask about insulation....

I'm interested in conserving energy (trying to lower our electric bill) and the thermal curtains sound great. I'm wondering if they'd help us any though since we have new double pane windows. Does anyone know if adding the thermal curtains would be helpful or just overkill?

TIA!

Yes, they would still help even with your double pane windows. If you window oane feels cool to the touch it will help. I found instructions online to make them. I am planning to do that soon. The important thing is to have them snug aruond the window frame. I am thinking of making roman shades, it seems like it would be easier to fit them snug.

ooh, mind sharing the source of the instructions on how to make them? we just moved into a house with large drafty windows that could use some coverings!

I'd be interested in that link, too. Please?
