Another diva cup ? - feeling uncomfortable

Thread Starter
I just got a Diva cup a few months ago and haven't successfully used it yet. I get it inserted, pop it open and it feels fine. But after about 5-10 minutes of wearing it, it becomes uncomfortable. For those of you who used tampons it's the feeling that you get when a tampon is not quite all the way in or just starting to come out. And the uncomfortable feeling just keeps getting worse until I give up. I've tried inserting the cup further but I have had no success. I've also read that you can trim the stem but I don't think it's the poking that's bugging me. So, do I not have it inserted correctly? How can I get it further in (if that's the problem)?

I really want to figure this out before my next period.

I would definitley try trimming the stem. I trimmed mine almost all the way off. That is probably the probem - at least it was for me.

HTH!

Feel free to PM me, and I'll get you through it. My daughter is 13, and I got her to use hers successfully on her 2nd cycle, and she never even "explored" her body before Diva, and was a little scared at first. I'll give you precise directions, and not take up space here, or be too much TMI for other readers. I'll tell you about primary insertion, the Diva Dance, and the double check. Cups rock, and if you make them your friend, they're a friend for life!

I had that problem, it was because I was wearing it up instead of pusing it down towards the tailbone like I was suppose to so it was slipping down.

everyone's pelvis and vagina and cervix locations are unique. what works for someone in terms of positioning might not work for you...

but in general, it feels better with no stem (when you take it out just reach a finger up over the top and break the seal, then fold it in half). without the stem, when you reach in with it inserted it should be at least an inch in there. it depends on how long your vagina is up to your cervix as to where it will sit most comfortably. some women have it all the way up touching the cervix (if they have a short vaginal canal) and some have it inches lower than the cervix.

the key with using cups is just to KEEP TRYING! it can take a few months!

Wow, I cut off my stem and there is no way it is an inch inside, it drops down within a couple of minutes and is still pokey on me. I'm not sure how to get it in far enough and have it stay there either. Good luck!

ITA about trimming the stem, I cut mine all the way off and it's great. However, many women report that they found they were more comfortable with a different brand of cup--you could also try the Keeper or the Mooncup. If you decide to try something else, to defray the cost, give your Diva a good scrubbing and boiling and sell it on the Trading Post. Even used (I know it's weird for some ) they sell for $20 or so there.

Yep, that is exactly the problem I was having.

I have a Mooncup so I'm not sure if that makes any difference but I cot the stem right off as soon as I got it. I don't have any problem with it sliding down.

I think I put it just above what my dh indelicately calls 'the u bend'. As you put it in you should be able to feel that you push it up first then towards your tailbone.

Do persevere with it; once yo get the hang of it you won't look back.
its always there when you need it (unless you lose it in the house as I did) and now the thought of using or disposing of a tampon doesn't fit with me anymore.

I need some help with this too! It feels weird and pinchy, I don't want to go back to tampons!
