How many larges do you think...

I am making ds some larges. I think about 16 will do for a couple of days. What do you think?

I am also a little concerned about the width of the crotch of the diapers. Do you think it will hinder his movement at all. So far he crawls, stands, and is starting to walk around stuff while he holds on. I am a little concerned that the larges are so large that he is going to be more bull-legged.

This a concern for anyone else or am I just over thinking this? He will be in these for a while I hope as he is only 10 months and 21 lbs.

Thanks
Jenn

If your son is starting to walk, he'll probably be in the same size diaper for well over a year. If you're going to invest in a size, this is the time to do it.

For the width - I'd say vary the width, if you can, and see if it makes a difference. Wider ones for overnight maybe?

I think 16 will get you through a couple of days.

I haven't found that the width of the crotch hinders my 15-month old. I actually prefer the wide crotch. I made her a couple of trim, 'bikini' style dipes and they just don't hold anything in for her, and she leaks everything out. Sometimes there is a lot of fabric up in there, but she just squishes it together and gets where she needs to go.

Like the PP said, sometimes a wide crotch will kinda fold down to make a V-shaped pee catcher, LOL. Some of my favorite diapers have been wide crotch models. They do seem to hold the pee better.

Of course, this assumes that the crotch is bendy.

I'm making about that many size 'big' of the mamabird pattern for my baby who is about 21 pounds also. I think the wide crotch is fine, they do seem to be a bit too wide in the back of the butt but maybe she will grow into that. I think I have enough materials to make 12-16 and I'm hoping that will be 2 days worth.

you might find that your son slims down and fits back into mediums soon too. Babies really change shape when they start walking. I doubt we'll ever get out of mediums here.

I think 16 is a reasonable number. You could always make a few more if you find you're washing more than you want after a few weeks.
