I had NSTs with my 2nd babe, who finally came at 12 days past her due date, all on her very own.

If you don't want to do it, just don't go to the appointment. Your doctor might call, but I can pretty much guarantee he/she won't come to your door!

I was just reading about those in "thinking woman's guide to a better birth". You might want to check that out. The problem is just that there is a high amount of false positives. Otherwise, I can't really speak on that as I've never had one. Good luck (and cancel that appt. if you don't feel right about it).

How far along are you? I personally would have one if I'm more than 2 wks 'over' just because my last baby's environment really was starting to deteriorate (thankfully it was on the maternal side of the placenta, not his), and when he was born, my placenta was really weak (holes starting to form on my side). Other than that, it was neat to see when he stopped taking his practice breaths. I had 2 of them in the last week (I carried 20 days past my edd and was positive of my dates), and on the 2nd one he'd stopped taking those breaths, so I knew labor would begin 24-48 hrs after that. Pretty neat, actually. He was born the next day.
