Tips for snap setting w/o sore fingertips?

...and broken fingernails?

You mamas must have some nifty gadget or technique to recommend, don't you? I've been snapping like crazy, and just use my fingers to work that stubborn cap pointy thingy through my 4 layers of tightly knit fabric. I keep thinking - there's got to be an easier way!

Thanks for any help!

I use my seam ripper to pre-poke holes. I find it is more accurate and the layers are smoother as well.

Your poor fingers!

I use a craft awl (it's really just a pokey thing!) a small nail with a big head would work too though. Raid the toolshed!

I've also used a big fat needle to make hole first. Then the cap glides right through.

So simple - why didn't I think of that? Thanks everyone, or rather, my fingers thank you!

Be careful with the stitch ripper, I pre poked a nice hole in my finger using that...

I like the awl or nail head idea...I had sore fingers for a long time before I realized I should pre poke (esp PUL) with something sharp and pointy!!
