I'm just wondering how many mamas had their water break before hard cx, after labor really began, etc.

1st birth: broke on its own right before labor began, birth was 4.5 hrs later

2nd birth (one I used for poll): broke during hard labor... during pushing... about 10min before the birth.

I was in transition. Was probably around 9cm dilated.

2nd gush of waters half an hour before contractions started and carried on leaking throughout the 4 1/2 hours of contractions then another gush just after he was born.

First birth I was having normal BH contractions and it broke. Real contractions started right away. Second birth it broke during transition, although it had been trickling most of the day.

For baby #1, my water broke probably between 5 and 7 cm dilation, I knew I was in labor for sure, I was still at home and still doing pretty well. Ctx definitely picked up after the water broke, though!

For baby #2, my water broke while I was pushing, I"d been 10 cm dilated for about 30 minutes and it was a lot harder pushing against the water bag than just pushing out a baby after the water bag broke. Interesting comparison.

With my first two is was artifically broken :

With my third my water broke in transition and baby was born 10 minutes later

With my 4th my water broke with no contractions but they started 20 minutes later and labor was only 45 minutes :

Mine broke while I was pushing too. They’d offered to break it artificially, but I said no. I was pushing hard and it burst really loudly, with great force, and everyone jumped back a bit. It was kind of funny.

Both labors so far it broke to start labor... but with #2 it woke me up, so I may have been having contrax before that but I slept through them.

I voted hard labor. My water broke while I was pushing.

Mine broke completely on its own between 6-7cm. It was one of the most bizarre things I have ever felt.

Mine broke sometime between getting into the water and 10-15m later when my ds was born. I wasn't even aware of it breaking, I think it was after he crowned b/c when i first felt his head, it felt mushy (like I was feeling it through the bulging bag of waters).

Didn't vote b/c I've had two birth experiences, both completely different.

#1: Water broke, ctx started 15 minutes later.

#2: Water didn't break until 3 pushes before crowning. Really thick bag that time -- it felt like rope over ds's head.

With my first and third it was broke by the doctor. :

The one I used in the poll was the closest I have ever come to natural labor. I was around 4cm and decided I wanted a shower to help relax, when I got out of the shower hard labour hit and I was barely able to get myself dressed. The nurse came in and checked me I was between 8 and 9 so she was getting everything ready for his birth. My dh was holding my hand trying to help me to breathe through the ctx and I had the strong urge to push. I was trying not to but my body was saying it was time to.. my water broke right then and I told the nurse what happened. She was like are you sure??! I was laying there like DUH! You flippin idiot.. no I just peed myself! : I didn't like her much anyway.. she determined that my water had indeed broke and paged the doctor. I thought the urge to push was strong before my water broke it was uncontrollable afterwards. Oh and when my water broke I heard/felt a popping sound and felt the gush.. it was the weirdest sensation I have ever felt.

I wasn't sure which birth to vote for.
#1 - labor began with my water breaking. 2nd bag broke during pushing. Exploded on MW.
#2 - waters broke during pushing. Exploded on MW.
#3 - labor began with water breaking. 2nd bag broke during pushing. No MW around to get wet!

I've never had my water break early in labor:
DD1--AROM by CNM at 9 cm
DD2--AROM by midwife as I was pushing--baby rode the wave right out
DS--broke on its own during transition--I think when I hit 10cm

DS: AROM at 6 cm

DD: when I started pushing, ~7 min before she was born (story is linked in her name in my sig

During hard labor. I started pushing within minutes of it breaking, and baby was born within an hour.
