If you were making only a two layer diaper

I am trying to make the most absorbant lowest profile pocket diaper. I don't want to stuff unless baby is having a high pee day. I thought I would use PUL on the outside and maybe a terry on the inside but I am worried about poo sticking.

Could you tell me what you would use? Does MM fleece inner absorb really well?

Fleece does not absorb at all. It either repels or wicks. Trim diaper fabrics include hemp, flannel, and terrycloth. If you are only wanting two layers, go for something with loops or nap - those extra threads will add absorbancy. The hemp (fleece or terry) can get a bit rough over time - use the smooth side towards baby. Same thing with any terry (knits like burley terry are smooth on one side). Organic velour is plush and absorbant, but not trim, although with only one layer of it - I guess it just might be considered trim...

Whatever you buy, look at the fabric weight, it should be given as ounces per yard. I would not use anything under 15 oz, that is sweatshirt weight. I would also not use anything that is not 100% cotton or hemp/cotton blend. Anything synthetic is taking away absorbancy.

Good luck. You must have a really light wetter.

Thank you so much I have found your replies very useful. I am hoping to make a potty training style pannie for EC and My goal is to try to keep things as streamline as possible with a stuffer if needed. This post probably saved me a lot of money as I had no idea fleece is not absorbant. I will certainly use your suggestions and experiment a little.

Yeah, you definitely don't want fleece if you are using it for potty learning. It will make the baby feel dry, which sounds like it would defeat the purpose of what you are trying to do. What if you used 2 inner layers of something like hemp and one outer of PUL? You could find some way to secure the 2 inner layers together so that the dipe would function as a pocket if needed, but that way it would be a little more absorbent if you didn't get to the potty in time. I don't think that one layer of even something thicker like cotton velour would really keep in a full pee. 2 layers might, but wouldn't be nearly as thick as a regular dipe.
