For the last few days, since I first lost some really cool gobs of mucus, I've had intermittent really wet discharge. It'll come and go, and never gushes or anything, it's usually about a quarter-sized spot to something that could amount to a thimbleful or slightly more of water -- today after a nap I was wet clear through to my pants (not the first time in the past few days).

I've been assuming that this is just a variation on the cervical discharge I've been having. Even if there was a leak that was being stoppered and unstoppered by the baby's head, it would be more frequent and more obvious than this, wouldn't it? Is there any other way to decide what's going on? Do I need to worry at some point that I'm decreasing the baby's fluid levels to a dangerous point if I keep ignoring it?
I'm pretty sure it's not pee, FWIW.

I've had my water break two times, and I agree with Keri--it smells bleachy, but not in a bad way
That would be the only exception to this excellent advice above!
