My friend had her 6 week ultrasound last week (because she did IUI and Clomid and the OB said it would be a very good idea to check for multiples and ectopic b/c of the Clomid). The doc who read it said it looked great, etc. (no mention of any issues), then 24 hours later, her usual doc called her and said the original doc my sister spoke to was concerned about a spot on the ultrasound (which apparently you can see if you look at the photo) and that it may be bleeding. The doc suggested another ultrasound in 2 weeks. (She is already on progesterone, and has been since the positive test.)
My friend can't find anything on the internet or in her books that's helpful and the OBs are both at a conference for the next few days (and on-call doc won't have seen the ultrasound). From what she can find, it could possibly be a twin that died early or signs of impending miscarriage or just a little bleeding.
She is trying to be calm but is understandably worried and not sure what to do. She doesn't really want to get more ultrasounds and is about to transfer care to a very good freestanding birthing center. She wishes she'd never gotten the ultrasound (but had thought it was an ok choice at the time) but now that she has the information she doesn't know what to make of it.
Her inclination is to wait and see and not do more ultrasounds. Does this make sense? It sounds like it to me, but does that little spot merit another ultrasound later on?
Any help/thoughts/similar experiences would be great and I'll pass them along. TIA!
