Labor induction and risk of AFE

I didn't see this posted yet. But I was wondering how induction can make AFE more fatal?
Quote:
AFE arose almost twice as frequently in women who had medical induction of labour as in those who did not; fatal cases arose 3½ times more frequently.
I also wonder if the same is true for augmentation.

Hmmm.

Doesn't AFE happen when amniotic fluid somehow gets backed up into the mother's blood stream? Usually through the placental site? If so, then would induction increase the risk of harder contractions, which could force the amniotic fluid into the vessels? Especially with ctyotec inductions, I think this is a concern.

Right that was my thinking, but to cause it to be more deadly? It just seems like there would be more at work than just stronger contractions.

stronger contractions-and possibly the things that go along with that- muscle exhaustion- breaking down of some of the muscle tissues, so the stronger contractions probably effect the placental site more and get closer to abruption, break off some of the attachments so there is a site for fluids to get forced in-- but there is of course the info that does put together hemorrhage and induction --- so maybe it effects clotting on a local level...
thanks for sharing the info
