There has to be a better lint trap out there.

For the hose going from my washing machine to the utility sink I mean. Riveting topic. We seem to lint up the lint traps on the washer hose immediately, and while they are not expensive and toxic or anything, it seems awfully wasteful to just keep buying these things. When I didn't use one the utility sink got clogged up. My MIL said she just uses old socks and a rubber band, which makes sense, but I haven't tried it yet.
So I need some lint trap suggestions mamas. Will an old sock work just fine? What do you use?

Panty hose & a coffee can with both ends cut out. No rubberband necessary. Put one leg into the other leg, stuff the toe down through the center of the can, and then stretch the top of the hose around the outside of the can. Stick the washer hose down inside, and away you go.
