Do I have everything?

Hey there. I have decided to make my first cloth diaper and I picked up some supplies.

I have:
1 yard of super fleece
1 yard of patterned fleece
2 yards of trim
Velcro
16 terrycloth washcloths
Thread
Elastic

Anything else I need? I was considering making an AIO, but then I heard about fitteds and I'm not sure the difference?

Thanks!

AIOs have a layer of waterproof fabric built in, but fitteds need a cover.

I feel like you need more information. You can visit this page for a brief description of diapering options.

As per the forum rules, I must tell you that that is a link to my website. I did not just cut & paste because it is lengthy. Fabrics that are not listed on this site that can be used as waterproof layers/covers include fleece, wool & nylon.
We also have a Sewing Help page that has video tutorials of how to sew elastic into diapers. The tutorials are free for you to use and will apply for any diaper pattern you may create - even your own!
I am sure that you could search this forum for more information on what is what in the diapering world.
It is always a good idea to sew up one diaper and wash, dry and use it before you make a whole bunch.

Thanks everyone for the information! So if I were to do fitteds, would I still need the waterproof fabric for the cover? *frazzled* Also, out of what I bought..what would I be able to make?

Thanks again!!

It depends. Definitely two layer fleece covers, I would say, and maybe fleece pockets. More details would let us help you better.

Here is your list and my questions:

1 yard of super fleece - what kind of fleece, from where?
1 yard of patterned fleece - ditto
2 yards of trim - what kind of trim?
Velcro - it is ok, but you really want aplix or touchtape for durability.
16 terrycloth washcloths - were you thinking soaker pads?
Thread - poly or cotton-wrapped poly?
Elastic - what kind?

Fitteds do not need a waterproof layer as part of the diaper, they do need a cover to keep you and everything around the baby dry. They do generally use absorbant fabrics in the body of the diaper as well as the soaker pad. From your list of supplies, it doesn't sound like you have any absorbant fabrics except for the washclothes, which aren't really big enough to cut out a whole diaper.

May I ask, what do you think you want to make? Who are you making diapers for,Levi? How old is he? When and how will you use them?
