You can take Motrin or Tylenol, but Motrin works better for cramping. Sorry your feeling so

If I remember correctly (I looked up naproxen the other day for my girlfriend), a VERY short run of it is okay, but more than a couple days is not. There was also one (maybe celebrex?) that was more okay than the others. My dd is sick and feverish in my lap, or I'd check for sure for you. REally, I know the killer cramps, but I'd stick to copious amounts of motrin.
Also, is your dc still nursing? You may or may not have a "Regular" cycle while dc is still nursing.
What's your diet been like the last month or so? The more sugars and processed flours you take in, the worse your periods can be...
Try an ice pack, sometimes heat can make the inflammation worse (this is coming from somebody who went to a pain clinic for cramps that demerol didn't touch, even a little). Are you supplementing with a quality cal/mag? That can help too, in the long run.
Eating very frequent, small, and very balanced (protein to complex carb) meals can help tremendously. I used to set a watch alarm to remember to eat...now it comes a bit more naturally.
Getting regular exercise ALL month is also a great way to keep the catecholemines at bay and make them less painful...I know, easier said than done with little ones around!
Hope some of that helps. Take care, feel better!

DS#2 is only 2.75 months old, so heck yeah we're still nursing
A little background on me: My children are 11.5 months apart. ( ecological bfing my arse...) I have not had a "normal" period since December 2004. My period returned at 8 weeks pp with BOTH children, and each time the period was pain-free. I can't say what my 2nd pp period was like the first time around because I never got to that point. I ovulated and got pregnant
So this is all new territory to me. Before we had children I was on the regular BC pill. Before I was on the pill my periods were pretty ugly sometimes. I refuse to go back on the pill, so I guess I'll have to tough it out.

I would take motrin if necessary. I also wanted to say that my first few pp AFs (first 2 or 3) were HORRIBLE. I nearly split my uterus during labor (had a pathological retraction ring) and I wondered if that was what was making my cramping so bad. I doubt it.....once the hormones regulated, it got better each month. Now I don't even get cramps!

For future reference, Ibuprofen is a Godsend. My mw prescribed me some Inubrofen 800's. They are *great*. I got them because I have an IUD and she said that the IB 800's helo with the heavier cramping and bleeding.
I hope you survived AF!! And fwiw, I'm a nursing mama and just had my second PP AF. It was *much* worse than the first one. So weird!
