music for labor and birth?

Just a simple question - what music did you play during labor and birth (assuming you had time to set the atmosphere)?

During my first labor we listened to a CD called Bali Midori, that we got in Bali on our honeymoon. It was music that we heard while having massages so you can kind of picture what it was like -- earthy kind of instrumental nature stuff. Very peaceful and relaxing. This last time I listened to Keola Beamer Hawaiian slack key guitar music during the beginning and then we put on Ghazal -- Lost Songs of the Silk road. Indian classical music basically. It was really nice because there were mellow parts and then it would get more intense -- just like labor!

i played this album by 100 Portraits. It's tribal-ish sounding christian folk. It is an awesome awesome album. I said my entire preg that I would be playing it. Well, it's funny cause we have it on our itunes. So I had it playing... well, the album got over and next thing you know it starts playing TuPac! ROFLMAO I just sat there giggling that I was listening to TuPac (sp? it's dhs music lol) while laboring in the pool.

DH comes and resets it for me. Ahhh... all is good again. Then album ends again and instead of resetting it he changes it to Enya! No no no, it was way too slow. I yelled at him to turn it off and put my music back on. He later laughed at me and said "So... didn't want Enya huh?" Guess I yelled at him pretty good

This probably won't help you at all, but I was planning on making a mix cd of music to make me laugh (so maybe I would laugh the baby out). This included - Salt N Pepa "Push it", Sir Mix-a-lot "Baby got Back", etc. Either that or Pink Floyd's "The Wall".

I don't remember know what music I picked for labor. I'm sure it was a very nice choice. But I had no use for music tapes in either one of my labors. I wish I had understood that before having a baby.

I like reading the music choices! I forgot to add mine from my labor with DS - which was a folk CD I found by listening to samples of various new age music on Amazon. It was called "Fairy Night Music" hehehe. It sounds kind of fruity, but it was actually really peaceful, pretty music. I also had a massage CD that I found the same way - and it had lots of nature sounds mixed in. The funny thing is that I made them loop each CD over and over for all 12 hours of labor. I would freak out when the music stopped and either DH or a midwife would run over to reset the CD. I'm sure that by the end they were ready to swat the first fairy or massage therapist they saw LOL!

Okay - the Tupac and Push it songs cracked me up - you go, ladies

Well...I actually wanted music with words - it made me focus better for some reason... I took along John Mayer, lots of Tracy Chapman, the Dire Striaghts, Eric Clapton, Norah Jones (she was actually what I was listening to when dd was pushed out so now I can't listen to that CD without getting misty!), the Dave Matthews Band, and a CD of Gregorian chants for if I got sick of the others...I had some others but can't remember them right now...HTH!

I assumed I would want music but I was in the hospital less than 3 hours before giving birth and was NOT interested in music. I brought with me an Enya CD, Loreena McKennitt, a CD of nature sounds, and a CD called Drumming At The Edge. They all soundedd like a good idea! But I guess you never know how you'll feel till it happens.

DH realized after that we should have played "My name is Jonas" by Weezer when I was in labor. I always get that song in my head when telling people what my baby's name was going to be. lol I did play it for him after he was born though

That was the very first thing that popped into my head when I read your DS's name. I didn't want to say anything, though, in case you got offended. That is my second favorite song by Weezer ever.
