Homebirth, Birthcenter, or Hospital? Oh what I would give for a homebirth, but I'm going to be realistic here and say hospital. I live in AL and there just aren't very many resources for alternative birthing options. I spoke w/ a hb midwife who is relatively in our are (like 2hrs away) and she said it was going to be nearly $3000 to have a hb. We just don't have that kind of money lying around (well, we need to spend it paying off debts before the baby gets here, yk?) so anything that insurance doesn't cover is absolutely out of the question.
The good thing? My OB is very 'hands off' in my opinion, and while very happy to offer advice, she really likes for her patients to make fully informed medical decisions--and believe me: I've researched her analysis of what is going on and I can't find anything that she's 'left out' or 'just forgot to mention', yk?
We had an appt w/ her about us ttc about a year ago (about 6 months b/4 we actually started not preventing) and talked to her about all the things I didn't like about my last hospital birth (same hosp, diff doctor) ie, scare tactics to get me in for an induction when I was "nine days late" (I really don't think my baby was late!), AROM without consent as well as uninformed, uninformed consent for circ, etc. and she acted like my concerns were valid and that if I wanted a natural birth she would support me 100%. Another great thing--she's had twins, naturally, vaginally! In the hospital, but still...
You don't see that in many OB's today, yk?
So. I'm very confident in my hospital birth choice, although I'm going to need you home birthin' mamas to help me keep my head on straight as far as natural childbirth is concerned. I want to go as natural as possible this time and I'm going to need some experienced mom's help!!!!
I'm so glad to get to share this time with you ladies. This is gonna be one great adventure!!!
