Come join the November 500 Items Decluttering Challenge!!! - Page 5

Phew - decluttered an entire trunkful of mementoes. Lots of good stuff in there, though. Only added another 50 items.

I swear, I hear the bed calling my name. Hate to stop when I'm on a roll, but I should probably crash. :yawning: There's lots left for tomorrow, though!

nak

We started the month with a big trip to the recycle center. Mixed paper, newspaper, cardboard, etc. I'm only going to call it 10 items, however.

This is such a great idea! I am SOOOOO in. Last year I got rid of a small bag of stuff a day. That lasted for about a month. It felt great!

I have a huge box of VHS tapes that I am getting rid of but I won't count them until they are actually out of the house.

I also have a bunch of cloths that no longer fit me that I am passing to my sister. That won't happen till Thanksgiving.

So I will say

0/500

Once again.....GREAT IDEA!!

I went through the office and kids' art supplies yesterday and this morning:

74 dried up markers and gel pens
A two-inch thick stack of papers, counting that as 30 objects
A box/maze thingy the kids made for their pet rats (the rats didn't like it)

We've only lived in this house two years, how can stuff pile up so fast? Glad I'm doing the Compact, too, so more stuff won't quickly come in to fill the voids!

two pieces of velvet with stars on it - will send to my niece for a cape for her son
train stickers - ditto to niece
Big storage jar
plastic boat
package of dd halloween candy - oops I ate it
book
two bars of soap for food bank
two empty shampoo bottles

Not much of a haul this morning but I did put away at least a dozen things while I was at it. House still looks like a tornado hit it.

I was going to say that I was doing a darn good job decluttering my DD's monster Halloween haul, but I thought maybe I'd just keep that to myself!

That's what I should do. It's way too tempting here in the kitchen.. I swear it's calling my name! The kids will never finish it all..

Hey, everybody! I've been crazy busy with my decluttering project, but I haven't had time to post in a few days (too busy with decluttering, I guess!). I have been reading everyday and it's great to see how everybody's doing. Reading everyone's messages really keeps me inspired.

I've cleaned out my coat closet, hall cabinet, master bathroom, the top half of a huge hutch/cabinet thing in our dining room, and weeded out DS4's and DD's clothes, which brings me to a grand total of 285/500. Holy cow! I thought at first that 500 was an overly ambitious goal, but it builds up really fast. It doesn't hurt that I haven't cleaned out the kids' wardrobes in a long time and with four kids growing fast, that's a lot of clothes to be donated.

So anyway, I'll try to post a little more often. I had hoped to get more work done today, but DS had a very scary asthma attack and we ended up in the ER. Thankfully, he's feeling better now (snuggled up with Daddy and watching a movie), but the day is pretty much shot for decluttering. Not that I'm complaining, though! I'm so grateful that my little boy is OK, I'd live in the city dump if I needed to!

Decluttering is way addicting!

So far I've got 100/500 things and that's just the bedroom! And I'm not even done in there yet!
Halloween candy....that reminds me, I need to go find and throw away those sticky suckers and hard candies Codi's been leaving all over the house!

I got rid of 326 things in one day!!! The basement isn't even finished yet! I may have to increase my goal at this rate. My step dd moved out last year and I bagged up all her stuff. Her car is in my driveway and MIL is coming to get it next week. I jammed all her junk in the back seat. Then I packed up a lot of old clothes that belong to my three girls and donated them to Salvation Army. I packed up two big garbage bags full of toys to donate too. The other five bags were stuff we just threw away (broken toys that can't be fixed and clothes that are too worn out to donate. Dumping this stuff was addicting. I can't wait to get back down there this weekend and finish. Then I'll start on the rest of the house.

BTW: Dh thought I was out of my mind for making him count everything.

I tackled the laundry closet today; I'm at 50/500 now.

One thing I got rid of was a quarter of a bottle of ancient Ecover bleach. It's older than DS. I think they just have some form of peroxide as the bleach and I couldn't even smell the stuff when I opened the bottle. I dumped it in the toilet on the off chance that whatever cleaning power it had left might do some good in there. Later my friend came over and at some point used the bathroom; I hadn't flushed the bleach/peroxide stuff yet. She came out with a really funny look on her face and said, "My poop is fizzing."
