Chrismas Gift Ideas?

I have to say that I am pretty upset by the "mainstream" toys out there now - they are all computers, etc. We wanted to get DS (who will be 15.5 months at Christmas) a play kitchen but we decided that might be a better gift for his 2nd birthday. We are kind of clueless as to what to get him for Christmas - we just haven't found andthing that seems appropriate for him. Any ideas?

That is how old dd was last Christmas-Were you looking for a big gift?

What about a learning tower?

Some small things like a nice set of wooden blocks, cool books, a set of musical instruments-melissa and doug has a cool set called "band in a box" filled with some nice wooden instruments...

I will keep thinking.

I'm in the same boat. Haven't found anything I like this year as a christmas gift.

This might be a bit "old" for the OP's child (although it's got keepsake value), but we're getting this for my nephew and for dd...it's worth thinking about, imo:

Ours (one of each) arrived about a week ago, and they're gorgeous - stunning colour, and really pretty illustrations.

Where are you searching? Perhaps you need a site to get your juices flowing to give you more ideas. Try this site http://www.kbtoys.com/

And shop by age.

My kids loved those bead thingies that have all the different shaped wooden beads strung onto the curved metal rods that swirl all around and are attached to a wooden base. Ykwim? Wth are those called? Gotta go search for a pic or you'll be

OK. Found it. Here are a bunch of them. Some pretty pricey, others not so much. This site looks like it might have some other interesting ideas too.

I love that book - what a great idea! Phin loves books and I think it's such a fun idea. We'll be getting that for sure.

The "Learning Tower" is really cool too - great idea. I bet that would be perfect at Grandma's hose since she does a ton of baking. We were planning on getting him one big thing (the kitchen set) but decided that maybe lots of smaller things would be a better idea. I know he's getting a toy box from DH's parents and this really cool tunnel climbing set from my parents.

And, thank you for the KBtoys site. I hadn't thought to look there. DH and I have been searching Toys R Us and Amazon and nothing looks good to us and at Rosie's Hippos but a lot of that seems too old for him. Hopefully we'll find something at KBtoys.

DD is now 15 months- I'm thinking a rocking horse or trike. Would he like something like that? I also considered a play kitchen but decided to wait a while cause I don't think she's old enough yet. DS had a plastic one that I gave away once he stopped playing with it. We're going wood this time.

DD has a rocking horse, and ds2 (also 15 months) loves it. It sounds like a great idea to me.

How about the lawnmower push toy on this page: http://www.novanatural.com/browse.ph...ategory_id=664. I've always loved that thing DD was a bit old for it when I first came across it, but we'll probably be getting one for DS

Push toys are great as are wagons

balls - O balls, koosh balls, bumble balls, scented balls, wiffle balls, texture balls, balls filled with beads - I would avoid nerf just yet . . .

stringing beads werea hit for all my children. we got them from rosie hippo i think. it has been 9 years we have only lost 2 and the still ook great.

the preschool i work at has these foam unit blocks. the kids love them and they can be thrown and stacked high and knocked down etc while still being perfectly dafe for little ones.

15 months is a great age for a riding toy - the kind they straddle and push along with their feet.

Second the ideas of a bead maze and/or rhythm instruments.

That's how old my dd was last Xmas. Let me think about what she got that she really liked. Hmmm... well I got her a ton of books. Those were probably her favorite thing. I also got her a wooden peg puzzle which she really got into a month or two later. Oh yeah, I got her some Lego Quatro blocks which she still loves (Megablocks are a similar option). We also got her some of these little animals: http://www.amazon.com/Tolo-Cow-Or-Po...toys-and-games (they have all kinds: dogs, cats, sheep, pigs, etc). I know they're plastic, but they're pretty fun for young toddlers. All of their limbs, tails, heads, etc move and make clicky noise (hard to describe, lol). Djuna has spent hours upon hours playing with them.

Oh yeah, those things are great. If you're looking for a cheaper option they have them at IKEA.

I just got a Rossie Hippos catalog today. I really like that shape sorter pull toy, the Rotondo Sortmobile. My ds loved pull and push toys when he was a toddler. The spinning cement mixer aspect of that would have been a hit with him, as well.

I know it is a plastic/battery toy but DD LOVES the playskool ball popper http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B00007G39I she got it from Grandma/Grandpa her first Christmas (she was 11 months) and has loved it ever since. It's one of the most popular toys of all aged kids over here... At that age she also got a ride on toy that she really liked. Peek-a-blocks too..
