What is going to be this years must have toy? Elmo, Nintendo Wii, ? Just want to know what you guys will be waiting in line for come the day after thanksgiving! Peace!

I wouldn't want whatever is "hot" this year, or probably any year.

Plastic? Batteries? Licensed characters? I feel faint! Thank goodness I get Mothering magazine, a light in the darkness of mainstream mass hyseria. Moreover, MDC is usually such a refuge from the usual consumer paradigm - I'm sure you'll find some great out-of-the-ordinary ideas that feature natural materials and room for imagination!

Top on my son's wish list this year . . . tinker toys! And DD is old enough to play with them too, so I know of at least one thing under the tree this year. DH is VERY excited about this--we may have to get two tubs!

I did all of DS's Christmas shopping last month. So, I won't be waiting in line for anything. The "hot toy(s)" for him is a Train Table and remote control car.

I have never understood those who anxiously await for the Black Friday deals, get up at insane hours (3, 4am) and stand in line for hours...with the rest of the mobs for a mere $10 savings.

Every year, the news show images of people who have camped out at different stores across the nation. I remember last year...at a local Wal Mart, people had been camped out in front of the store waiting for the doors to open.

When the doors opened, the crowd pushed through and a lady fell down and was trampled over by the herd. It was on the news! They had video coverage.

I guess I'm not sure why it's so exciting...Black Friday that is

I myself prefer wooden toys and books, but my almost 7 year old does want Heelies, the shoes with the wheels in the bottoms. You should see how he looks at kids who roll by in them when we are out in public

I don't know if they are officially hot, but he certainly thinks they are

I completely agree- my 6yo really wants Heelies also. I'm OK with any toy that encourages getting outside and getting moving (bikes, scooters etc) and try to stay away from plastic/ battery operated toys. I also stay away from whatever is the fad cause in a couple months there will be a new one and the old one will sit in the closet.

I'm thinking for DD this year getting her either a trike or one of those rocking horses that looks like a stuffed horse and some silks since she's starting to like dress up. For DS either rollerblades or Heelies or something like that.

DS1 (13.5) is getting juggling clubs and a spinning plate, a leatherworking kit, and a wood 3D dragon puzzle. (I hope he doesn't read this!) The juggling clubs are plastic, but what can ya do? He loves to juggle...

DD (3.5) is getting a personalized book called "My Very Own Fairy Tale", a set of wood blocks and...something else, possibly a box of dress-up stuff, but I need to see if I can afford some playsilks first.

DS2 (15 months) is getting a xylophone and...umm...not sure yet, but something else.

ummm .. yeah in this case I think plastic is far better choice than wood :

i do wonder what the hot toy is gonna be this year. it is a weird phenomonon to watch. its so random and seems to have little to do with what kids want and more what thier parents think is cool. and then it bcomes this mob mentality.

I don't shop the day after thanksgiving here. When I am in montana I do though. the deals to be had and amazing and the number of people looking for them is minimal it is a surprisingly relaxing day of shopping.

I think the new Tickle Me Elmo is supposed to be hot this year. It is actually hilarious. Here's a video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...57706320871566

But it would be a waste of money in our house. I think it's $40.

Ds is really into jigsaw puzzles this year. The Melissa and Doug ones are great because they go in a tray rather than all over the floor where dd can get them.

I'm thinking we'll get each kid something from Ten Thousand Villages (the fair trade store), Learning How (the teacher store) and some treats from Whole Foods.

Now to convince dh...

oh my gosh. that tickle me elmo is hillarious

Would it be wrong if I bought that new Tickle Me Elmo to sell on Ebay so I can just profit from the idiotic hysteria? That's wrong isn't it?

Thanks

Yeah, I think that was more of what I was thinking about doing... It might be worth it to take the time to pick up the hot toys just to turn a profit on ebay... My grandmother, oddly enough, has been doing it for years... Just a quick note on an earlier comment - watch out for those heelies.. they just freak me out...I see the kids gliding around and I just think they are going to bust their heads open...Maybe I am just not cool enough to understand them... Thanks again!

Okay, I HATE all things battery powered and I abhor TV-show toys....but that Elmo toy is pretty funny. Must admit it, I can see why people would like that.

A kid came by us at The home Depot on those things and fell flat on his back! : Ow!

I was given a gift subscription to Family fun magazine. It had an article on "hot" toys. It was all crap! Bratz dolls for 3-4 year olds and lots of stuff that with licensed characters and movie themes. Their top pick for the 5 year old age group was a Scooby Doo plug and play tv video game.

We are going to stick with Playmobil stuff, books, legos, building toys, etc.

I want wheelies so bad! I wish Santa still came at my house :P I am so envious of the kids I see wearing them!
And that elmo is HILARIOUS omg.
i assure you, even if we WANTED any of the "hot" items (if someone gives k tmx elmo for her birthday/christmas, i might spork them in the eye), i sure as hell won't be out looking for them on thanksgiving! BUY NOTHING DAY!

PS3 is going to be the biggest, there is going to be a huge demand for the launch, unfortunately there won't be enough to go around and most people will have to wait for the second batch to come out. Of course this is more adult/teen oriented and I don't imagine most parents would be willing to spends $600+ for it, although it does have it's own OS so it could double as a computer.
